Help! Shutter speed ridiculous.

Hello fellow explorers, I recently dug up a Canon Rebel DS126151 from a box and am completely new to DSLR cameras. I went on an explore today that was pretty mad but all my photos were ruined by a shutter speed that was literally over 6 seconds with my ISO at 1600; pretty sure even a sniper cant shoot clean like that without a tripod. Can an experienced gentleman or woman help me out?

the effect is really cool sometimes, but like in the last image, I wasn't able to capture the terrifying mannequin.

Also sorry for the links, but I'm not sure how to resize them for upload.

I'm just very lost.

Sounds like the issue is just it is set on manual settings and the shutter speed and film speed are set at those values. There should be somewhat intuitive controls to adjust those, or you could probably change it to a different mode, such as automatic.

If it boots up its probably ok but you need to understand it to know so...
Read the cam manual.
Then...
Do a hard reset on cam and take it back to factory settings.
What shooting mode is it in?
Adjust accordingly.

Just when I thought I was out... they pulled me back in.

Also check to make sure that your aperture isn't closed all the way. Maybe if you're frequently shooting in dark places you should get some lighting. An on camera LED panel works fine in small-medium sized rooms but for about $25 you can build an insanely bright light. Or just buy a a faster lens. Canons nifty fifty. All of this really depends on your style of shooting and how good you want your photos to turn out. Investing in a nice tripod could be the simplest option, but you should do some research to see what would suit you best.

Thanks for the feedback! Really appreciate the amount of kindness towards a total newbie. Apparently the mode I was using had the aperture set dummy low, so I found a shutter priority mode (I don't fully understand the aperture "scale"(?) yet, and got much better results! Now I just need to get my pictures in focus haha.

seconded I say shoot in manual and pay attention the the settings, iso, shutter speed and aperture 1600 iso is getting up there at f2 you should get something in raw in most cases unless totally dark

S mode usually allows you to control the shutter speed pretty easy on most cameras.
P is the aperture, the amount of light it lets in.
M or manual allows you to control about everything, but it takes some learning on the particular model to know what controls what setting in this mode.
Auto mode does OK if you don't want to jump too deeply into all this stuff just yet.

how does it go...?

aperture increases so you want the time to decrease, aperture decreases so time increases? its about telling the right amount of light in anyway. In short.
