I once shared a location in my regional board (yes, it was a public place so maybe not "exploring") and a group of people from my region took selfies of themselves pissing on the location. Such nice people on UER.

I hear and live all of your frustrations. Exploring here is much tougher than it used to be. I know many areas of Canada and the US experienced this several years ago but this is Saskatchewan and we are always like 10 years behind the rest of the North America.

What we had years ago:
-Several large untouched abandonments (Asylums, Sanitariums, hospitals, military bases)
-virtually no other explorers
-rural areas full of pristine untouched locations (farm houses, churches, stores, schools, hotels, grain elevators)
-ghost towns - we used to have so many great ghost towns
-land owners generally weren't too upset to see people on their lands as people generally didn't wreck or steal things.
-virtually no exposure on locations (we kept the good stuff to ourselves)
-virtually no trespassing laws

What we have now:
-Large abandonments are all gone
-tons of Instagram "explorers" who expose everything for internet ego points
-rural areas have lost most of their locations (what remains is looted, destroyed and/or on posted lands)
-Land owners are hostile, armed, aggressive, and very on-edge
-part of this is caused by meth (yes late to the party - but one would think our politicians could see it coming from miles away)
-these larger drug issues have made the mostly crime free rural areas targets for criminals.
-any good location is instantly on the internet and destroyed.
-most new explorers don't care about preservation - it's all about ego boosts.
-much harsher trespassing laws that are about to get even harsher.

It makes it tough. The glory days are gone. We still explore what we can and love travelling but the big fun stuff is long gone and many locations aren't worth the risk. I'm tired of dealing with aggressive, hostile land owners ready to shoot us for taking exterior photos of an old (crappy and clearly unused) farmhouse. There isn't much to see these days and I expect things will only get worse.

^ This! This is key. I've been sitting on certain things for a very long time and frequently visit places that I likely won't post until they are gone. It seems like now-a-days people post their photos as they are driving home from the trip. I also won't even get started on live-streaming from places...

Live streaming explores is literally one of the most moronic things anyone could think to do, yet some brainboxes still do it to look cool...

I couldn’t agree more!
I, too, have found a few places based on careless Flickr data. I also call out YouTube and IG kids telling them nicely that it’s not looked up kindly when they give our spot locations and POEs. About 70% of the time they acknowledge the mistake due to not even thinking about it. This is just an offshoot of a generation of explorers who have never actually had to look for spots on their own. They (and it’s a generational issue, I have teenagers) feel entitled to know locations.

I used Google "street level" view to delete a number bogus locations that had been added to the UEDB when I was a moderator. Some of the imagery is so detailed its scary.

I could not agree more. Urbex, as its called, has taken on a whole new meaning.

How very true. I have photos from 2004-2005 I never even posted, at first, waiting for the statute of limitations to run and two to avoid giving hints to careless "urbexers".

Even back then photos of the wrong places could convict you. I don't know what keeps all these Instagrunt weenies from being prosecuted by some county attorney that's bored or needs to rack up a few plea bargains. Probably a lack of complainant in 90% of the locations.

I know people who have actually been arrested due to live-streaming around here. Someone ratted the guy out and the cops came quickly enough that he was still in the building. While it is indeed one of the more moronic things people could do, I still would never rat anyone out for exploring. Even if I deemed them as my "worst enemy" (thankfully I have nobody that meets that criteria). Ether way, it goes to show that Instagram users will rat others out due to jealousy.

I outed a group of 4 kids who vandalized an abandoned synagogue in Chicago. They were stupid enough to post it on YouTube with one of their crews names. Then I looked him up on Facebook and found his buddies. I reported them to the police but since they were minors no charges could be pressed.

don't get me started with that one... why wast your money/data live streaming a place to just give out the location to the ass hats that wants to destroy it or get your self arrested because some other ass hat that doesn't like the streamer or something!

I won't lie, the reason I started exploring was kinda child-like. I played the famous Chernobyl mission on Call of Duty 4 when I was 15 and BAM! Was fascinated with ghost towns and subsequently abandoned buildings. But I've not always had a camera whilst exploring. The whole reason I haven't posted content lately is because I no longer have a camera. It doesn't stop me from exploring, though.

This sounds a lot like Edmonton. And who doesn't love a good farmhouse but....lol

The more posts I read, the more it makes me appreciative of how hard it is to explore in Toronto. I am also appreciative that I didn't have social media as an influence to how I explore.

One day I got a good camera.
