Fleeting and I did some houses once and got into this one place... At the time we got in, was all empty, no one inside, all quite and all.

We got into this room at the end of the house and we started to hear foot steps near the PoE. They we're rushed, one person but pacing around quickly, as if he was looking for something or someone in that case... They eventually reached the end of the house and got in the room we hope he wouldn't go in. He was homeless squatting in that house...

He asked us what we were doing inside. We told him we were simply walking and looking around, exploring... He proceeded to ask us who we were and we told him we we're just nobodys. He asked again looking for another answer and we replied with explorers, we go in abandoned buildings taking pictures...

The weird part is when he asked us if we had College Certificate as if it was a pass for being inside.. We both replied no and he then asked us to leave... Walked us out and that was it!

Ohhh man.

- a group of teens shooting a music video with a drone, inside
- a homeless man sleeping in a room, with a couple mannequins dressed in women's clothes
- at the top of a completely gutted out 6 story hospital, there was a machine room where somebody was squatting, cardboard and grocery bag beg, and a night stand with a Jake the Snake 6" figure.
- a homeless man sleeping with a mounted deer head

I take frequent trips to New Orleans to see my girlfriend, but yep, sounds like New Orleans to me!

Yeah, we got a clean division between liberals and conservatives so all the freaks hide where we like to play: abandoned buildings.

I had gone to Pennhurst one specifically to shoot the exterior of the ornate copper clad copula.
Still intact and in good shape.
Had been shooting the interior a week or earlier.
I was exploring the trade shops in the maintenance building when I heard loud noises. WTF?
It was in the afternoon and nobody should be in the complex. I saw a man on the copula tearing off the copper.
Grabbed my gear, threw the 70-200L on the cam and slinked over there for some recon. His Ford Ranger was parked in the front loop of the administration building. Shot the truck and tag, walked up and shoot the Vin number, then stood back a bit and starting shooting him.
He was above me still peeling off copper. Took him a couple minutes to notice me.
"What are you doing, don't shot me" and so on.
*snap-snap-snap, etc.*
He hurried down, but he was a good 3 stories up with no fast way down. I know because I had just been there. Jogged away and bedded down. No cell phone. Waited for him to leave and walked out.
Called the state police and latter sent the images.
He got nailed red handed and busted, the copula's one of a kind art and weather sealing were destroyed.

No remorse here.
He fucked up my shoot... and yeah I was trespassing.
What happened to me for trespassing on state property? Lots of interesting info about Pennhurst from the trooper and an unofficial pass to shoot there as I pleased.

You're better than me. I would have knocked him down. Fuck ethics. He's not doing any more damage than I can let him accomplish. What's he gonna do, call the police?!

I'm not familiar with the copula but I'm sure I could have thrown a bottle or two at him, but honestly I recognize that you did the right thing. My way would have been brash and reckless.

So you fight someone on state property, with a couple grand of cam gear, 3 stories up?
Try facing off with someone that high up first and then see what you think.
If you killed him it be manslaughter and assault otherwise... plus criminal trespass on state property.
If he had a gun and you had a bottle... or guess he could have just thrown the hammer and crow bar at you. Or maybe a little one on one, knife vs crowbar?

He got what he deserved and I have no complaints.

Holy crap! You were THERE when the copper siding was removed?? You SAW the dude who removed it?? Good on you for busting that asshole and I would LOVE to see some of those pics!

I started exploring PH in 2007 and the first thing that struck me was no siding on the cupola - like I saw on all the pics. I feel like it must have been removed just before I started going there.

I owned that bitch. TFF.
Guess it was in the fall of 2006(?).
The 70-200L and the pro cams fast lock ons came in real handy that day. Full face shots of the perp in action.
A few days later the state trooper paid Mr. Scrapper a house call. The trooper got lucky, saw the copper neatly folded into squares in his garage with the door open and confronted him. Done deal.
He was one of the troopers that busted the guys who stole the copper return lines for the Pennhurst steam heating system a few years earlier. A down to earth trooper that taught me more about Pennhurst.

I posted some of the pics here, but -try- finding that thread
Since it's archived doubt the images survived the UER server transfer.
Still have the images but would need to dig them up.

For all those saying that trespassing is no different than scrappers or other criminals, here's real world proof that's not always so...

I'll argue that point. Trespassers are like ghosts, wandering, not bothering.. Scrappers are like poltergeists.... fucking up everybody's good time.. You usually don't call a priest for ghost.

When I was about 16 or 17, a friend and I decided to explore some old grain silos right off a highway about 10 minutes' drive from my house. This was a quick explore and the silos were hardly interesting. However, there was a small office building in between them. The building was two story and we planned to explore the building in its entirety (as one does). Our plans quickly changed when we walked in to find a bed with pillows on it. So there's probably a squatter living here, no problem right? We'll just leave and go about our day. But here's why we skidaddled so quickly.
In addition to the bed and pillows that obviously weren't left over from the building's time as an office, there was a noose hanging from the ceiling. A true rope noose, just hanging from the middle of the wooden ceiling. Next to it, a black robe also hanging from the ceiling. In the dead center of the floor, an old reddish brown stain. Was it just a scare tactic? Probably. Was there something sinister going on? Not likely. Were we gonna stick around to find out? No fucking way.

I've encountered a few people having sexy time on the way to locations, usually in cars.

One was parked in a really awkward spot on a pedestrian path, just slightly out of sight of the road but super visible to everyone on the public trail. We had a large group of explorers walking right past the car and then stopping to kind of stare rudely inside.

Another one was parked in front of a location, we thought we saw someone in the car so were waiting to go inside. Then we see a leg come up, and another leg...

Another time, five of us climbed through a window into a building. As we're standing around getting gear adusted and whatnot, we suddenly realize there are now 6 of us, all with headlamps and backpacks. Everyone turns to #6 and someone asks "oh hey are you exploring?" Dude goes "Nah, I'm stealing copper", and then wanders off.

On the flip side, I feel like I've been part of more strange things from other people's point of view. Like when someone is trying to fish by a storm drain and suddenly 10 boats full of drunks emerge from underground and scare the fish.

Turn off the internet and go play outside.

Those f'ing mole people can be dangerous. We've got tunnel people out here in the Adobes and all the locals know to stay out of the mines because of them.

I'm guessing that they are of the same origin.

Dunno, didn't pay that much attention to it.
The guy cleaning it every second sure did.

Looked like a lot of "Hurry up and wait."
