Went for a hike near a dry reservoir last week and ended up taking an impulsive clamber through the inflow tower and outflow tunnel.
To my regret, I woke up an owl who was sleeping in the tower so I don't think I'll be going back anytime soon.
I figured there wasn't much flash flood risk with the hills this dry
| It's a lot bigger up close...
| But the grate is still too small to squeeze through comfortably
| So over the top I went
|
Paused at the top to take a look around before heading down inside
| Outflow pipe is about 3ft in diameter
| There's a ladder up the inside of the tower, I guess for service access
| I'm always pleasantly surprised by how clean the insides of drains can be
|
The tunnel went straight for a few hundred feet and then turned so I got to spend a bit of time in total darkness.
