Social media and people in general suck!

I agree as a card carrying member of the grumpy old man club.

Shots from a public road typically imply no expectation of privacy. If she (sorry) man, hmmm.. is not doing this for the thrill of infiltration Id simply go the permission route nobody will think youre less of a, woman, especially if its a registered old structure chances are there are other pics of it, somewhere, anyway unless the new owners are just complete assholes and plan to remove the historical plaque when it goes up people are going to shoot it.

Seems to me they didn't really know the historical significance when they purchased it and are now probably regretting the attention LMFAO! I don't know how they didn't know though...it was in the newspaper and is talked about often by the small town. I'm starting to think they are maybe out of towners.

I guess it is what it is, I removed them off Facebook but I hope you all enjoy them here. It is a beautiful home and I wish I could had seen it as a tavern...so sad that it is in the condition it is.

I did enjoy them. It is a beautiful home. I hope the owners restore it to how you remember it. I would ask a mod to delete this thread. I don't think it is private. The right string of words in a search engine will reveal it. 2x of Blackhawk can confirm that either way. Best of luck on your project.....

Do you think it would be okay to repost them without those keywords? I am happy for some people to appreciate it.

its not private but with no town name street name other proper nouns associated with the home its not likely to get Googled but ya never know

the case I referred to here was posted on some photo blog like imgur or something, somebody saw it and recognized the house then ratted the photographer out to the officials

I suppose as long as town, state, family names are left out, it would awful hard to Google.....

Am I obligated to remove the pictures and can they actually press trespassing charges against me?

No, they don't have the authority to tell you to delete the photos. The photos also could serve as proof in court that you kept a distance and all.

As long as you shot them from a public place ie public street at street level, there's nothing they can legally do.
If it was a shot on private property they own they have a leg to stand on.

They could still sue you but the law is on your side.

This.

+1 on Blackhawk's post and Seeker's +1 above.

The legal aspects of it are cut and dried. So long as you are on public property and not taking photos for commercial use, there is zero expectation of privacy. Now there are some caveats, but you'll largely be in the clear unless you're on .mil property, or other unusual spots.

Bert Krages is an IP, Copyright, Photography, etc lawyer who has done a pretty solid but short write up on it. First link is to the whole article, 2nd is to the print out referenced.

Seems so silly to me that the family is that upset over a vacant home and makes me SO suspicious. Makes me feel like they are hiding something LMFAO!!

I have to agree. It was in your family for 150 years, and recently auctioned off to a new owner who isn't even using it for anything?

Anyway, I could move this to another forum and make it private, though I'm not sure of any forums the OP could access where I could do that and keep it relevant.
