These are definitely "bear boards". We use them in northern Wisconsin to keep bears from ripping apart our trailers or cabins when we are not there. Bears will absolutely destroy a cabin simply because they smell the gum wrapper you accidentally dropped inside as you left. Or your snot-nosed kid's booger farm hiding under the bed. Point being, even if you leave no food behind, they will always smell something that makes them want in. When they are in, they just trash a place. Rip off cabinet doors, knock everything over, and tear lighting off walls/ceilings. In the case of a friend, a bear knocked the faucet off the sink, leaving water to run through the place for WEEKS before his return. If your cabin is more of a house, they will even rip drywall out if they hear or smell a bug behind it. Of course bear boards are left OUTSIDE, not inside. We nail shut shutters and doors, and lay bear boards in front of them. Nailing instead of locking allows access to someone who may be in trouble - injured, lost, etc....

I can understand the frustration of some location owners. I also understand, they don't know we are not the same as scrappers, vandals, and the gaggles of teenage penis taggers #whodrewthedicks. BUT - something tells me the owner didn't do this. I think some halfwit thought this was amusing. The same kind of halfwit that likes to tease and torture animals.

If it was the property owner, that is just pure evil and I classify them no different then the aforementioned halfwit. Really - what are you protecting?!

I've considered getting some insoles for my boots to protect against nails just from walking around places, not only nails down here but we got some mean thorny plants, I've seen thorns go though boot soles. This makes me want to more.

Only time I have been poked was when I was exploring an old house, true I should not have been wearing crocs. Very little resistance for nails.

It is in that location

I didn't see more things of that nature in the building.

If it weren't for the accompanying post and picture, I would have had a hard time believing that one. The bear boards are one thing. But the calculated effort to direct your buddies hand through the snare.... Damn. He really is very lucky - if that happened if he was alone and multi-tool-less? I can't imagine the night of pain he could have had to endure.....
