Another place that isn't technically abandoned, although this time I was aware of this in advance. This former high school was built in 1908, but has been used as a community center since the 1950's. It closed in 2014 due to a water leak, and is currently undergoing asbestos abatement before being reincarnated yet again as housing.

This location is laughably close to where I live, but I've always thought that it was still in use. When it started showing the telltale signs of abatement and renovation, I thought that it would provide the best chance I'd ever get to conduct my own unguided tour. I was on pretty on edge as I entered; the power is still on, the only entry requires using the elevator, and each elevator is covered by a camera, with motion detectors at the end of every hall. This turned out to be a hollow threat, though, as missing ceiling tiles showed that the cables for these instruments all led to a "security office" that had been completely gutted down to the bare walls. Apart from the gym, which is pretty much unchanged since its first renovation in the 50's, the interior is sorta bland, but enough remnants of its former lives still remain to warrant documentation.

Great you got in before it changes completely or is gone. Still some good remnants of its past on the walls too!

You had to use an elevator to get in. Thats interesting! Im not quite sure how or why? Is this school on several levels. Please fill us in. Anyway, im glad the elevator still worked and didnt stop in mid-stream ... that would of been quite an adventure. lol. Was this a private school? I find the rooms very neat and different, much nicer than most schools here in Tx. Nice find Baldran. If # 4 is a class room...well, that the prettiest one i think ive ever seen. Good job on these!

Well, every exterior door was locked except for one that just led into a small alcove with the elevator at the other end. It worked perfectly the entire time, but it made the presence of cameras and motion sensors extra sketchy. This used to be a public town high school, but has been used for social services and other community programs for at least fifty years, so I don't think any of the original school architecture has been retained apart from the gym. I'd like to try to get back in once they're done renovating to see what they've changed/screwed up.

Awesome location and good timing on your part to get in there and look around before they closed it or restored it anymore.

Hard to believe someone thought that lime green was an excellent choice for a hallway! Yuck!!

Give abandonment a reason for its sacrificial reclamation to nature. Love it. Remember it. Take a picture. Share it. Leave the decay to nature.

Right? It's even more searingly bright in person. This was the child care area, though, so yay primary colors for everyone.
