Posted by NeuroticMatt I keep telling myself I need to go here, and I keep not going. lol Great pics. Thanks for sharing!
-Side note, my wife did a report for school a while back on the history of Texas prisons. This place has a dark history, it started and operated more as a slave camp than a prison. After reading some of the history about the place, I am glad to see it shut down! There is a prison grave yard across the highway from it, next to a nice newish housing development. I have heard people talk on the radio about some of the leaders back in the day in this area that established it, and what great things they did for the community with the business that they built that gave the area its name. But I can't help but think of the price that was paid to make that area what it became. Sad sad history, but awesome photos. And I still want to go. lol

Thanks! You are Welcome! The history is really interesting, and would love to know more about what your wife found out. I DID find out about the cemetery but didnt have the time to investigate this trip. There is so much more to see. I just hope i can make it back before its all gone. But, as summer approaches it would be killer in there.

Thanks much for looking! I appreciate your comment.
Post by Pear It's sad seeing all the graffiti now - still a great location. |
I know, but really, not terribly bad considering how many years its been closed, and how many people have been here. I remember your nice shots too. Have you made another trip?
