When I first saw this place from the highway, and then while checking out the satellite imagery of it, I thought that it was a motel, with an office by the side of the road and individual cabins set back in the woods. In fact, it turned out to be two different locations, completely unrelated to each other but both equally abandoned.
First up, the building adjacent to the highway that I mistook for a motel office, which I could not figure out the purpose of until I walked into a large room of cinder block kennels. The sign in the attic confirmed that it was once an animal shelter.

The cluster of twelve cabins behind this building showed signs of being occupied for longer periods of time then you would expect to see at a motel, leading me to think that they were vacation cottages or year-round apartments. They showed a wide spectrum of decay, with some being completely empty and clean, and others literally overflowing with clothes, furniture and trash.
