Long-Abandoned Seaside Resort

I mentioned a couple weeks ago in a thread that I was going on a short cruise. Well, I went! I did some research on places I could explore in the areas I would be stopping in. I was only able to do one explore which was during our stop on Isla Cozumel, Mexico.

An abandoned resort outside the main town, hidden in bush between two towering resorts. I did a little digging. From what I could pull up, the buildings I explored were part of an old resort. Half of the property was bought up and developed into a new hotel while the other half was left abandoned.

When I was walking through the barren structures, I wasn't sure if this was one of the abandoned resorts I saw that people believed was abandoned after extensive storm damage. It certainly looked that way. Perhaps seaside winds have contributed somewhat to its decrepit state, or it's an intricate balance between human destruction and
that of nature.

The building closest to the beach side. One of a few:

This structure housed hotel rooms, each one with large openings facing the sea:

The bush surrounding the buildings had this interesting cement pipe work:

Who wouldn't enjoy a poop with a view like that?

A forgotten child;

Finally, time to sit...

Hope you liked this set as much as I had fun shooting it. Remaining photos from this explore plus others from my trip are on my Flickr.

One day I got a good camera.

Is that orange building in the background abandoned or is that the active one?

Thank You! You made my day! Finding a abandoned seaside resort is one of my dreams for a truly lovely vacation. Love the potty with the view. Sad pictures. Makes me think that the owners had to run when a hurricane hit and this is the aftermath. They must of threw in the towel after that. Its hard to live by the sea without ALOT of insurance. Always, GREAT job!

Great stuff, Fleeting! Those picture are really nice, the post apocalyptic vibe is strong! Love the angles and that toilet view!

The orange/pink buildings that showed up in the background were part of one of the active resorts. Instead of trekking through the ant-filled bush and piles of dead flora I went through to get there, I walked through that resort on my way out.

In hindsight, it appears there were more buildings and things I could have seen if I had walked in the opposite direction.

Awesome set!
Aside from the obvious subject matter, I can smell the smells and feel the heat and it makes me long to get down there somewhere. The bathroom shot is the real winner of the set with that gorgeous scene of life carrying on behind it.

Awesome set of pictures!

I was near Cozumel a few years ago and am kicking myself now for not looking for places like this, just ended up doing touristy stuff (which was fun too, but this looks amazing!). It looks like exploring a whole abandoned city! Especially love the shots of the toilet and the abandoned photo books.

I dunno if this is weird or not, but I don't think too much about the emotions and feelings the shot invokes in the moment when I shoot, at least consciously, but I have been told in my photos it's something I capture well. I do think about atmosphere and mood when I edit though, and I took it into heavy account when I was editing these.

While editing them, I thought about the bright blue sky and sea, and the sun shining on the greenery. I love making colours pop, but in this set, I also wanted to make sure the sun was represented, so I made the shots as warm as possible. I know I've gone overboard on colour before, and I personally think I may have on some of these, but I'm not disappointed in the results.

Thanks for the feedback!
