We went spent the night at my sister-in-law's house for St. Patrick's Day, and the next day I managed to pull myself out of my Smithwick's-induced misery long enough to check out a farmhouse just down the road. It held a surprisingly large number of leftovers, given that it's been abandoned since about 2002; other houses I've seen in this state of decay are uniformly bombed out and empty. Oddly, almost all of the artifacts seemed to belong to the family's children. I guess it's easier to leave your childhood trappings behind than drag them along with you.

The girl that had the ripstick in her room must have been the shiz, if its been abandoned since 2002 she had a ripstick like a year after they came out.

Wow Baldran! This is a great find. 3,4,8. That pink room is Awesome! Amazing how the window facings are peeling like crazy but the paint on the wall looks almost new. Love that lighting fixture too.

Great photos! It kinda makes you think what their life was like when it was inhabited. Also what made the family decided to leave all those old memories. I would imagine that they at least keep the trophies.

I always get a weird feeling exploring houses abandoned since the early 2000's like this, because they're always full of stuff that I recognize from my childhood. My first computer was an iMac exactly like the one here, right down to the color, and my brother had a blue RipStick (I had forgotten that's what they were called) that he couldn't ride for shit because we lived on a dirt mountain road. There was other stuff that I didn't show here, too, like video games and accessories that I had at that age.

The pink room looks like something from Karen Jerzyk. IIRC, she showed up on the forum, burned some location with a bunch of bad press, and the community ousted her. Some respect her work, some do not.

Thanks, I guess? I'm not the biggest fan of her work. It's generally well done, and she uses her settings well, but it's way too loledgy for my tastes.

And she does stupid shit like getting caught in someone's occupied home with three models. Not a good look.

And since then has gone on to create hundreds of really intentional works.. LOTS of creeepy shit, lots of time-consuming production design, this stuff doesn't happen without planning.

And I'd bet she's at the point now where she can just email random owners of derelict businesses and say "can I use your place" and they're like "sure".

I watched her website grow from some shitty black thing with a few UE (B&E?) photos on it, to some well-fleshed out galleries with a respectable amount of finish.

Sure, she did some dumb shit. But she's also an artist who is executing her passion quite effectively. Doing so does not *excuse* her from said past dumb shit, it just has to be in the equation. I don't solo-produce anything with half the effort some of her shoots have taken. Haha

So glad this thread is now about some other photographer's artistic growth and evolution. . .
