Abandoned, 1925-built vaudeville theater carved into four movie screens in the mid-60s. Located in the middle of a very ritzy, historic downtown -- now condemned to die for some ugly condo development.

The power was still mostly-on at the time of these three visits, the result of the place being dressed-up for an online auction which never took place. At time of writing, it's now in total darkness.

Wow, they did a decent job keeping the main auditorium fairly nice. Nice set. Too bad it's getting demolished.

At least they bothered to incorporate some of the original details. Did you happen to get behind the main screen to see if anything of the original stage/proscenium arch was left?

I didn't, but it's unlikely anything's still there. The original vaudeville config was, I believe, one big auditorium. The seating area for which was halved to create two theatres, and the stage was converted into the smallest theatre. The fourth one is actually upstairs, on the other side of what remains of the balcony.

#11 made me laugh. It's always a shame to see old places like this being condemned with little effort to incorporate what's there into something new.

Why would you tear this down? Why? Such a waste.

Great set to remember it by, though. It's not often you see movie theaters with decor and a layout as unique as this.

It just kills me that such a beautiful piece of history is condemned to die for some more shitty condos. The pics are wonderful and I just wanted to say thank you for posting them. Thru them, this old gal will be remembered.
