The L.G.A.R. Nursing home began construction on February 17, 1890. The nursing home was closed in October 1996 and has been abandoned ever since. After being burnt down in 1900, A 53 room building was then built to replace it. In 1937, a 30 room extension was then added. L.G.A.R. stands for Ladies Grand Army Of The Republic. The nursing home was built for the female family members of Union Army veterans that had served during the Civil War. Being abandoned for about 20 years, The nursing home operated up until around October 1996. A new nursing home in Turtle Creek took over the remaining residents for which is the main reason why this facility became abandoned.
