I had never heard of beet sugar mills until I came to Colorado. Here are some pictures of my explore in one!

I only uploaded two pictures because they all wanted to upload upside down for whatever reason. Here is the Flickr album https://flic.kr/s/aHsmfomGmG

That's a great place! I'm super envious!

Can't wait to check this place out. Is it true that you have to get permission from the owner to go in? Or did you just simply go in lol

Ah, definably love that one! Just be careful, almost all of the interior is contaminated with asbestos and once a large section of roof caved in around my group, likely due to the rain. Stay safe ;)

Wasn't really sure where to post these pictures of a sugar mill. These pictures posted at the top of thread look really closely similar so I figured I would post these here as it seems to fit.HUGE FAN of the asylum/hospital types of lost places but have yet to see one.
If its not the same location, please let me know. Thanks!!

Wow, it's weird to see that place in the daylight. The dozen or so times I've been there have all been at night.

Awww I did my first explore at one of Colorado's sugar mills in 2006. Brings me back.... I live in Oregon now and I keep seeing stuff about Co online and it almost makes me miss it.

We have them here in Wisconsin too. There used to be an abandoned one in Madison until last year, though there wasn't much left besides the superstructure.

Howdy,

I don't have info on this site itself, but just a word of advice, as someone else who was new here once: don't ask for locations.

This was just recently my first legit explore (other than a few small drains and some stuff randomly found in the woods when I was a lot younger). It was night and windy as hell, which probably made it a bit less safe(or a lot), but it was an incredible experience with old metal creaking, wind howling and things making noise around the factory. Really a fantastic first explore!

There was a small fence with just a few lines of barbed wire, real hard to see in the dark, my buddy was going to quick and tripped in it, got his arm a little but he was okay. So anyone going there, please watch where you're going, especially at night

Me and my buddy didn't stay for long, maybe an hour or so. Definitely want to go back and get some pictures during the day sometime, it's a really fantastic location (I know, pics or it didn't happen). I haven't picked up a respirator yet, so hopefully I didn't get too much asbestos exposure there :/

Curious for those who've explored it before, what was your experience with the stairs/upper floors and stability in this place?
It was too sketchy in the dark and with the wind, so we opted just to stay on the ground floor. The wood sections didn't seem damp or spongy, but dry rot could be a possibility. I figure it's best to play things safe until I'm more comfortable and experienced.

When I went in early 2018, everything was stable. Do not go without a respirator. There are open bags of asbestos everywhere in that place. Did you see any yellow plastic bags? If you did, that was asbestos powder. Bring back a respirator. Other than that, most ladders, stairs and landings were stable. You can climb on the roof if you are so inclined.

Yeah 100% not going back without a proper respirator with the right filters, and probably in general with abandonments, I don't want to risk it. Good to know, it seemed like solid metal and concrete still to me. I'm not sure if I saw any yellow bags specifically, but definitely a few plastic garbage bags strewn about and some insulation looking material.
