For what it's worth, I go alone pretty regularly. A female alone is an unusual kind of camouflage.
I bring mace and a knife, but I've never run into trouble, apart from one very feisty owl.
Wow. I'm afraid to do that. Last time I went with one friend, and we decided to keep it a really short explore because we felt unsafe and wanted at least one more person, just in case someone fell through a floor or needed some sort of help. It's so much easier for two people to carry someone out, or for one person to stay with the injured to render emergency aid and the other to run for help.
Of course, this was at night, and I have since been told by members here that as intuitive as lurking under the cover of darkness may seem, it isn't really a good idea.
Also, I'm usually more afraid of environmental hazards than I am of other people, which, again, might not be the most correct line of thinking, given the context.
