Before we get to this location, we need to discuss the term “abandoned” and the true state of some places I visit.

I (and others) use the word abandoned as a blanket term,it’s just easier that way.

It’s obvious that not every place I explore is actually abandoned….but what I can guarantee you is that they are all empty, vacant, unused or unoccupied/uninhabited.

Some of my locations are stuck in estate/legal limbo, some are owned by a bank or a holding company. Some are owned by a real estate developer holding onto the land for a future development. Others are possibly awaiting permits and legal proceedings to be repurposed, redeveloped, demolished etc for a different use in the future.

When I scout, I have certain criteria that I am looking for. If a found location seems to meet those criteria, I will explore it and do some further research once I get home.

Explore Everything, right?

I couldn’t even try and tell you how many rooms this house had or how many bathrooms it had. The place was huge and beautiful. No contents inside, no beds or couches…just room after room after room!!

The land that this now vacant mansion lives on dates back the time when Upper Canada was about to come into existence. At a time when land grants had been abused and given to those with privilege and family interest, the rules had been changed and grants were given to those who were innovators and businessmen agreeing to settle in the towns to grow and improve them.

Built in the late 1800’s as a gift from a brother to his sister after she married a decorated military colonel, this house was originally used as a summer residence by the couple.

Having been used over the years as a summer residence, to a permanent residence, a seasonal educational facility and more, the future of this home is now up in the air pending a development proposal for the property.

Built in the colonial revival style the three bay residence has a large front porch and balcony, multiple bedrooms, fireplaces and two large sunrooms/solarium

Must be nice to explore a house that isn't full of pigeon shit. That place is beautiful

In #16, is that carpet on the walls?

Ho-lee shit.

For this, sir or madam freaktography, you get your thousandth UER "Like"!

Crazy home, great photos!

#26 in black and white doesn't suit the rest of the full colour set, but it's evident you went in there with a super wide lens, which worked well!

They're so close to real-estate photography I'm sort of comparing to that - in which case you have some work to do (level your horizons, HDR everything!) .. Kidding about the HDR, not about the horizons.

But yeah, great comprehensive capture of the house! I absolutely LOVE the green tiled room!!!

1001 The pictures are Awesome, but a person doesn't realize the magnitude of this home until they watch the video. WOW! I don't think I've ever seen a mansion THIS large that wasn't some kind of hospital. Rooms and nooks everywhere! Interesting to me was the attic space with ropes in case of a fire.

While on a recent exploring meetup, I came up with a new term for urban exploration I hope will find greater use. Reading this thread, I think it is especially appropriate for what you're doing:

EXTREME REAL ESTATE.

Damn, you weren't kidding about this place having room after room after room, and all in such immaculate shape, too. I usually find places with this little decay pretty bland, but the sumptuous decorations and architecture really make up for it. Thanks for capturing it so well for us!

Thanks everyone, it was a great place and sometimes we need to look a bit deeper to find new things to explore.

I'm glad you're not a bunch of pussies here that yell "B&E" as soon as you don't see any decay or if it looks to clean

I agree with your statement at the beginning, especially in Ontario. Beggars can't be choosers, so explore what you can.

Interesting place, but for a historic property, it's had quite a few modern treatments.

One day I got a good camera.
