Last month I visited Mexico with a large group of friends. Most people go to Mexico for the sun, beaches and culture but as an urban explorer I was after something else.
As much as this is not necessarily "Urban" I couldn't help but feel as I was walking through the buildings, that the Mayan ruins of Chichen-itza are truly the original abandonments.
The questions that circulate in my head going through any abandoned house or building is "what kind of stories does this building hold?" "who used to live here?" "Why is it abandoned?".
The same questions circulated my head while walking through the abandoned Mayan village but on a much larger scale.

To spite being a tourist trap albeit a remote one, it's very cool.
To actually walk in and around those ruins is so much more than simply looking at the images...
it had to be a great rush to be there.
Nice shots

Just when I thought I was out... they pulled me back in.

Such a rush! However the tourist side of things did ruin the exploration and abandoned part of things a little. Also the inability to climb or enter the ruins although I understand and respect their reasoning behind that.

Can you not even walk up the stairs?

No :/ There are Mayan ruins that you can climb in Mexico but you can really see the difference. The ones you can climb just look like piles of rocks now and these ones are in way better shape and still look like pyramids/structures. You used to be able to climb the pyramid on one side but that side is really worn down now so you can't walk on them at all. It makes sense when you see the damage on the one side just from tourists walking on it
