I've only run into people twice and both times happened at the same building (the church in Gary). The first time I went, there were a bunch of teenagers walking around. They may have been exploring but I'm not sure. They weren't vandalizing the place or doing anything stupid, just wandering around. The other time I went, I ran into a guy walking around taking pictures. On both occasions, we pretty much just said hi and left each other alone.

It's kind of a weird encounter, just saying hi and then subsequently avoiding each other. Next time it happens I might try to get to know them if they are exploring. Always good to meet new exploring buddies

Are we living a life that is safe from harm? Of course not, we never are. But that's not the right question. The question is, are we living a life that is worth the harm?

They're usually pretty good about making themselves scarce at the first sound of other people.

I was on a trip to Philadelphia and ran into someone else taking pictures at one location. Later that day, I saw the same guy at another location on the other side of the city. That was kind of weird, but he seemed nice.

I've only run into explorers before entering a site. Ended up exploring with them for a little while, and their dog. Once inside, I've only ever heard others.

I've only run into other urbexers once, probably at the same factory as 4Valhal. It was night and there were actually two other groups there. We talked a bit and learned a better place to park than where my friend and I were.

Not exactly urbexers, but about three weeks ago, I ran into a MASSIVE group (at least 20) of dumb teenagers going maskless through an asbestos-ridden building (don't think they knew) for the kicks.

The idiots saw my red light coming up the way (we weren't far from a state police building, so I was trying not to be obvious) and freaked out. I was told after I got them to calm the hell down and accept that I was neither a cop nor looking to rob them, that I'd nearly gotten a damn gun drawn on me. Serves me right for going to a popular spot, and going at night.

Almost never - i've met only "ghost hunters" and geocachers for 15 to 20 times. Only once a guy next to abandoned train station started conversation with me, saying he wrote a thesis about that station abandoned station/train line. So i count that as an explorer.
Sometimes i chat, sometimes i don't. I usually choose not to bother people because they probably want to enjoy a holiday in silence.
Ohh, once a geocacher group member that appeared next to a location told me "take an eye to my bicycle and beer". The beer was tasty so i drank it, haha.

One time very early in my exploration career (I was about 12) I was walking around an abandoned asylum with a friend. As we were leaving I saw a guy in a van on the road behind the asylum. He waved us over but we kept our distance. I thought he was just another explorer. I had seen a few other people in that area on previous trips. He told us to watch out because there were cops in the area, so we told him we were on our way out. Later on I learned that plain clothes police patrolled that area in unmarked vans. In retrospect, the fact that we were so young probably saved us from a pretty serious fine. Definitely not how most kids learn to avoid strangers in vans.

Tons of times. It's actually surprising to me to see people say they never run into anyone. But yeah, easily upwards of two dozen people over the years.

In Perth it's becoming a lot more common. Used to only see homeless people and graffiti writers. Saw my first scrapper the other day. Gave him a wide berth because he looked like he was on meth.

In around 7 years of exploring and thousands of sites, I've only met legitimate explorers three or four times. Once they were a younger couple that followed us into a tunnel beneath a hospital. Another time there were two explorers with a naked model who went frantically running as they thought we were the owners. The third were a pair who we briefly said hi to and then avoided each other for the rest of the time. The fourth we walked into a group of 5 or 6 well known explorers who froze like deer until we introduced ourselves.
