While on vacation in the south, I got the opportunity to see a great now-defunct steel mill. It was actually open to the public, so anyone could walk up for free and wander around or take photographs (don't ask me how they swung that liability-wise). It was nice not to have to watch my back for security, and to be able to use the flash indoors. But it also meant that I had to follow the pesky "no climbing" signs, because there were a good number of people around. I wish I could have come back at night when I'd have had a little more privacy, but I ran out of time.
Part of it was also set up for some kind of Halloween haunted steel-mill thing, so it took some maneuvering to get around that. It made it a bit surreal, since there were all these bloody handprints and mummies strung around, but no one there during the day was interested in being scared by them, so everyone was pretty much ignoring them. I tried my best to keep them out of the pictures, but if you see something in the background that looks like an electric chair, that's why.
And... I
just broke down and got a Flickr, so please excuse any stupid technical issues with the embedding.
