DPP is a powerful, light image processing app.
My favorite for processing RAWs and jpegs.
Canon Zoom Browser is great for basic photo housekeeping.
Never lost an image using either of these apps. Both are mature products that work great and are full of easy to use top shelf features.
Use to be you only could get updates be not full app online.
Canon rocks
http://cpn.canon-e...to_professional.do

Links to Canon downloads on above page. Take ZB and DPP for a test ride especially if you're shooting with a Canon.
These are the best apps for lossless handling of Canon RAW files.

I have personal beef with Adobe so I use RawTherapee for good results. The Canon one is good though.

Adobe is a pain in the ass.
DPP is a snap for quick editing.
I'm resurrecting my photo hdds with a new (refurbished) laptop.
The availability of free top notch apps like DPP, ZB and 3 tb hybrid hdds makes it possible.
A drop in replacement for MS Office too.

I'm sick of expensive, troublesome software; Adobe and MS are on the top of my hit list.
Going to sample linux Mint.
W-10 is pure spyware; MS is now beyond redemption.
What MS is doing with the NSA makes AT&T's old "black rooms" look harmless.
W-10 does active gleaning for target phrases and words on your computer and will transmit said documents in the background, silently to big brother. Read the EULA
Do not 'upgrade' to W-10!!!*
W-7 is the safest but MS has got to go. MS sold out to the feds.

Long live PC... and die MS, die!

Yeah all that aero crap is turned off on my machine.
Didn't notice the meaning of that before you pointed it our... pretty funny.
Can you tell how much all that pretty code writing impresses me?

While I agree with you, be prepared when you start getting used to Linux. I ran Linux Ubuntu for ~4 years as my primary OS: nothing is made for Linux. Even things that are made for Linux, are not made for Linux. There was not a single program that I didn't have to research and drop in at least 4 lines of code just to install and get to run, with some tweaking later on as I tried to fix bugs. It's great if you're comfortable with command lines, just something to bear in mind...

Back on topic, is DPP going to be worth switching from GIMP for? I've been having good luck with it so far.

Yeah, Linux is a pain. The more I looked at it recently, the more the flashbacks of the 1 week loads of it haunted me
W-7 doesn't seem too evil. It even recovered it's self from a bsd.
The wrong hdd driver was loaded by... someone

DPP is worth a try especially for fast editing. It's loseless; it never modifies the original RAW image permanently. It's lens tools are designed for specific Canon lens.
Canon still has downloads for old cam/OS dinosaurs too.
It's loaded on my ×64 machine without any drama. To set the color profile in ZB, you do it through DPP, if I remember correctly.

PM me it you want to download it or ZB for the links.

I've been running Linux for the past 4 years. I do mostly web dev and all the good tools are made for Linux. Deploying a local Apache server is just a few keystrokes away with Aptitude.

I even play games via Steam, which is now officially supported. I run Office (Word/Excel) via Wine.

I use Ubuntu on my desktop (even if I don't really like it, but it has the best support for Steam) and Debian on my servers.

Speaking of distributions, I really don't like where Ubuntu is going. Web apps, data collection, closed source software, etc..

At least they killed Unity and FINALLY switched their official releases to Gnome. It was about time.

Ubuntu went closed source?! And data collection... Jesus... It's like every time I get annoyed with Windows again and start looking for an alternative, I just get depressed... and with Linux attracting more attention, I can't rely on no malware hashing heard of it like I used to, so grabbing an old distro is out.

Looks familiar? That's on Ubuntu.

IMO, if you can, stick with Debian.

I was looking at Mint... I still am traumatized from the last time I played with tar balls.
Post Tarball Stress Syndrome is real

W-7×64 is running well; wasn't too hard to optimize it. No regedits yet... lol, it will happen.
W-7 will comply... one way or another.
Everything after it is trashware though especially 10

W-7x64 learned some new good tricks that XPx64 couldn't do; it was able to load Lexar Image Rescue. It has a 16 bit loader, wow.
It's my favorite low level formatting app; it's saved unformattable cards.

Windows is still the only modern OS that doesn't ship with a built-in SSH client.

I mean RawTherapee installed fine on Linux Mint on a Raspberry Pi. 64-bit ARM is about as far off normal as you can get. Linux Mint is the new Ubuntu.

Meh, was trying to use a Seagate Firecuda, but those hybrid hdds are bitches.
Not even viewable on disk manager on my external hdd enclosure. All my other sata hdds run fine.
No missing drivers... wtf?
Bad hdd or what?
Never had a bad hhd out of the box.
Out of dozens of hhds only one failure; an old IDE WD drive
Not getting another Firecuda...
