I've told the story 3x here.

Comedy gold right there... but it's also an understatement.

Ya, My buddy's HDR shots (Photomatix Pro) does have a more "natural" look to it while still bringing out detail. Do you use the pro or regular version? True enough on not all photos need HDR. I don't shoot everything bracketed for that very reason. And, like all forms of art, HDR is one style even when used sparingly is not for everyone. Much like Graffiti. It's hard for me to not photograph a good graffiti piece. But, that too is not for everyone.....

Some people here might find it hard to believe but I do HDR with no tripod. For whatever reason I seem to have a very steady hand (despite too much coffee and other things!). I do Photomatix Pro, and the newest version (6.0) actually has a feature that allows blending with the original to tone down overdone HDR. There's a lot of HDR out there that people don't know is HDR as clowns are in but clown vomit is out for sure.

Clown vomit.......epic...LMAO.

I am with you on the REALLY crazy HDR. Although...at least for my taste...I have seen some HDR photos that looked like drawings that actually looked pretty damn cool. Photography.. other than documentary style.. is pretty much art. It's all about the viewer's taste in what they will like and not like. When I first stated learning photography, I was told by a mentor that you cannot judge a photograph- you can only like it or not like it. I think there is a lot of truth in this. I have seen people get lost in awe with Picasso style paintings at art museums. When I look at a Picasso, I just don't get it. LOL. Monet...is another thing for me.

I did go back and play with one HDR I made and just did it "normal". I have to admit, I like it a lot better. And it was better received by the people I showed it too. But, I still like and am going to do some HDR...

I am not surprised at all that you do HDR handheld. I watch my buddy do it all the time. And when he runs his stuff through Photomatix Pro, it looks damn good. My widest lens on my D5300 (cropped sensor) is my kit lens (Nikon 18-55 VRII). It's not a very fast lens at all so I shoot off of my assault rifle tripod almost exclusively. It's a surprising good kit lens. I am looking at the Sigma 10-20 F3.5 for me and my girlfriend in the near future. Still not fast, but my style for urbex is dark and moody anyways. So, I really don't need a fast wide angle. I also run the Nikon 35 F1.8G for urbex which I can do handheld under the right light. But hardly ever, as a tripod is staying on my "must take with" gear list for ANY urbex shoot I go on.

HDRs with a handheld cam?*giggle*
Even with a weighted tripod and shutter release misaligned images happen.
You really need a laptop uplink to control the cam if you can't program that aperture opening sequence into the cam it's self before punching the release.
Time is all you have... until it runs out.

Allow me to retort.

The posts you can see...
Even those viewable to you were researched as astutely as you have the rest of this site.
One only needs look at your page count to know your level of interest in the 7 days you've been here.

There a few pinned threads you appear to have missed while reading those couple of pages.

My comments on HDRs and tripods are mix of sarcasm and reality.
No better way to ruin a keeper than converting it into an HDR artifact.

You never did post one of your many original exposures... if you saved them.

You are in fact both correct. I do have to deghost and align photos as they do not perfectly match, but can be made to. Being art, some people hate it and some love it. I have about 30 pieces in an art installation right now and people are buying. I have debated going to tripod but they do get in the way, as it would in fact be easier to have to edit less.

That powerplant looks amazing, but the HDR is too heavy.
