One of my hobbies is fishing for Trout and as I drive along the back roads searching for rivers to fish, I stumble upon places like this. I never went here when I was a Scout. The place is now listed as permanently closed, though I'm not certain as to why. Here's a bunch of shots from the trip, need to go back with a tripod to reshoot the main lodge.

Thanks for looking! Full set here @ https://www.flickr.../72157684130665321

Man, I love all of that untouched retro furniture. Somehow it just always goes so well with the atmosphere of an abandoned place.

Great set! Just goes to show that many of the best places are found by chance.

These are some awesome photos. I love the feeling you get from seeing them one after another, the place is begging to be the setting of a slasher film.

Awesome Captures! The loneliness shines through each photo of days gone by...if you stop and listen you can hear the kids playing ball, laughing at their soggy sack lunches at the picnic tables, or, having a heart to heart with one of the group councilors in the main house with the cool old furnishing. Wonder what happened?

Thanks all! Mis, no idea, I've been trying to find out as much as I can but there's basically nothing out there as to the reason behind the closure.

Probably a lack of funding. Two Boy Scout camps about 30 miles from where I am right now just went under due to lack of funding and interest, especially since a larger camp nearby become super popular. The Boy Scouts have been hit hard by the internal political shakeups they're facing, and the resulting public backlash from their traditions and centralist policies has caused participation to decline in recent years.

Besides, summer camps are expensive. If you have 30 staff (cooks, maintenance, area directors, counselors and a nurse) and pay them each $225/week in accordance with minimum wage for contract workers, and camp goes for eight weeks plus one week of training, then you are paying $61,000 for one summer of staff wages alone. Add in food, maintenance, equipment, and insurance, and you could easily need at least $100,000 per summer to run a medium sized camp. If the money dries up, so does the camp.

"Sorry, I didn't know I'm not supposed to be here," he said, knowing full well he wasn't supposed to be there.
