What're you pet peeves to see in photos? Like what gets to you but you see it all the time? Why don't you like it?

Mine is generally photos taken at a crooked angle to look "artsy". To me it looks like a photo was taken while someone was falling, instead of art.

Do NOT call anyone out on these things, this isn't supposed to be malicious or cruel, just fun to note what some people find annoying. Also,
if you do something that someone points out in this thread as a pet peeve,
don't get offended...we're all different and have our own opinions/tastes

In my own photos, I hate when I can't recover blown highlights no matter how much I dick with it in post, and also when I cut off elements with the edge if the frame. I'm super anal about composition in general.

Not gonna mention stuff other people do, 'cause glass houses and all.

EDIT: And also 90% of my half-assed attempts at distortion correction.

My biggest pet peeve is a well framed photo of some interesting subject matter with a ridiculous edit. I've seen photos of rooms that I've stood in myself multiple times that I barely recognized.

Also the whole "fire" thing. These insta kids have been setting shit on fire because they think it looks cool for a photo. Whether it be candles or newspaper or a stuffed animal it's juvenile and uninspired. I don't understand why so many people, some who are actually decent photographers, feed into this by commenting how great it is.

Things, particularly those items of a left behind nature in abandoned houses, that have been sometimes ridiculously set up or posed for the photo.

Some of the photos of 'posed' shots are laughable or worse, cringe-inducing.

EsseX hit on mine. Seeing a great photo destroyed in post as well as the flip side. Seeing a decent photo that could be a great photo with a little post.

My personal pet peeve. Noticing things in post that I didn't see while shooting. Things that I would have worked around, moved, removed or fixed. Its drives me batty when it happens.

A very old example ... several years ago I was hired to photograph the interior of a lawyers large home that was decorated for Christmas. The client wanted a series of images they could use for Christmas cards for the coming years.

I drag a bunch of equipment over. Set up strobes... yada yada.
Shot for about 2 hours. wrapped it and thought "Fuckin aye! bang up job. They're going to be delighted with my work"

In my haste and excitement I did not notice a scarf that was on the back of the couch. I shot some really nice images that day but all the client saw was that fucking scarf. I didn't notice it until I began to process the photos.
Fuck my life.

Thats an extreme example but I've had it happen in the past with exploring photos as well and it pisses me off. Seems no matter how hard I try to be conscious of it I still find shit in post I didn't see while shooting.

Left-over toys. It can be cool. Sometimes. A little. Just not everywhere, all the time. Oh, and smoke bombs...

Not gonna say anything composition wise, because as Baldran said, glass house. I'd better be perfect before I start criticizing people's technical skills.

Looks fantastic in playback from my camera, but at actual resolution I see that the subject is out of focus or there is camera shake. DAMN!

Also, cliché photo comments (mostly from old people): "If these walls could talk..." or "they sure don't build 'em like they used to."

Over-editing drives me crazy. Not every exterior shot needs a sky so black you'd expect a tornado to be slightly out of frame.

Also when there's that crappy glow around the edges of dark/light parts of an image (roofs, window edges, trees) where the person editing couldn't blend the two exposures properly.

The last time I posted about a photo pet peeve someone with far too much time on his hands went back almost three years into my instagram feed just to find pics of me doing the two things that I now consider a pet peeve that I tried three years ago!!!! I post one pic every day, so imagine how long it took him to do that....

My personal pet peeves:

- Trying to re-edit old pics from 2012 only to find that my obnoxious large watermark from the time has been saved onto my original files
- "Where is this?"
- People who comment on your pics stating that they have been there, or they know this place but make no effort to compliment the photo or to provide critique. I have probably also done this...
- Pics that look amazing on the in-camera display only to find they are blurry when viewed on computer...EDIT - I just saw that this one has been stated above already.

I could go on....

Yeah, I can't stand edge glow or the inexplicable dark outside.

I still can't wrap my mind around only using a 3.5" phone screen sharing site to share your $4,000+ worth of equipment captures.

With my own frustrations, I echo Speed's "oh come on!" at myself while in editing, seeing things that should have been moved.

I usually enter a location, do an "oh wow," and then try to capture the whole scene with the wide angle. I'm jealous of my friend who takes the time to move some things around (set-up) and focus in on isolating interesting things instead.

Thought of some more of my photo pet peeves, haha:

-When someone selects one colour in a black and white image.. but forgets to eliminate any extra appearances of that colour that are NOT part of the subject.

-When someone posts a photo with the image slightly crooked.. or intending or architecture slightly off symmetry.

-poorly done white balancing (I can't even look at some of my old images)

-"light painting" with no clear subject, save for some random streaks of light.

-steam-punk, gas mask, or horror-style abandoned building shoots (Sorry, it's just me. I can't stand it)

Coincidentally, I was taking a break to visit UER while editing a new location in the background. So I just went back to it and cooked up a special one just for you, har har!

(...as a side note, there was a storm approaching. I didn't entirely shit the bed.)

In my own pics, not being able to get the sharpness just right. On the same line of thought, when images look fine normally, but not at 1:1.

Just remembered one that probably only serves to illustrate how negligent I am:

When you've had a photo online for weeks, and then one day your friend points out a huge dust spot in obvious area.
