During the summer of 2014, our office did an assessment facilities at a State Hospital. It was a great experience to go into these very old buildings. Some of them have not been used in decades.

One of the great experiences was getting to go underneath the old Kitchen Building and enter a tunnel system that was used to connect to the adjacent buildings. There's a rail system still on the floor that was used to transfer supplies and food to the other buildings. They told me that the rest of the tunnels were not accessible, but the portion I was in was only remaining area with access.

Here are some photos from the site visit on my Flickr page:

Lucky you! Any updated info on this place? Is it still there, still vacant, still full of stuff, accessible without permission?

And this is why we don't name stuff or post public threads like this. The hospital is completely in use so good luck trying to break into something. There are a few vacant areas inside active buildings, but they use all the buildings on campus. There is also a guard at the front gate that you have to check in with.

I had permission here in 2015 but I wasnt able to get to the underground portion that you were in. Guess it depends who took you around. The lady I had was a little confused as to why I was there and what areas I wanted to see.

I failed to read specifics about posting topics. Apologies if I created an issue. I just wanted to share the photo's I took.

Rinzler is correct. This place is an active campus. The facilities maintenance people were with me at all times as an escort. We went into active buildings with patients that had varying degrees of mental illness. Some of them were severe with violent tendencies, and then there were some who were quite well mannered and easy to talk to.

There is a gate with a guard and we got a pass for the week, but always had to check in at the Facilities Dept. We'd have a quick meeting and then check out the buildings.
