Interrupted exploration

After a long awaited meet which I had the pleasure of having with a fellow explorer from the forums, I was finally able to break my abandoned interior virginity. It's safe to say I've fallen in love with the adrenaline and serenity that comes with exploring industrial beasts.

There was so much more of this building I would have loved to check out and document, but far too soon into our enjoyment we were interrupted by the single security guard who we'd walked past quite some time before he knew what our intentions were. Nothing like getting caught for the first time on your first time getting into a building, right?
Luckily he seemed pretty uneasy of our precautionary respirator masks (and maybe the lack of his own) and maintained his distance where we exchanged a few pseudo-friendly greetings (and threats on his part) before promptly turning around to leave back the way we entered. Unfortunately, he wasn't one of the rare security guards that I've read about who let slide some daring photographers- but that's okay.

Definitely will be returning in the future with more knowledge under my belt and an actual camera, but my phone will suffice for now. Here's some shots before our fun was cut to a devastating end.

Special thanks to AK for making this happen. Hope to explore again soon!

Nice story! Just be happy he wasn't one of those "call the cops" kind of security guards That place looks absolutely massive. I have yet to do any heavy industrial type explores and find myself quite jealous.

Great pics as well. The warehouse with all the half walls is quite interesting. Do you know what they did there before it shut down?

Thank you!

At first we thought he was going to be friendly about it but he actually did threaten to call the cops which is why we decided to quickly get out of there. We ended up hanging out at a safe distance away afterwards to see if he followed up on his words but turns out it was just to set his own mind at peace; albeit I'm sure he was on edge all the rest of his shift.

The place used to be a pig slaughterhouse, and the room in question is where they would round them up before they embarked on their journey to become the lovely packages of bacon, and more, that you see today in a grocery store near you. 😊

Good first splore and very good images
Try to be more stealthy next especially if you were trespassed off.
Predawn it, observe and try to determine their patterns; guards tend to be consistent but not always. A good pair of tactical binoculars can be useful in big sites.

Guards can be quite annoying if they choose to be. There is a handy write up in the Rookie forum about handling police and security I do believe.

It makes perfect sense now, thank you!

Edited because I apparently can't English.

Woooow! That place is beautiful! Though I would have been a bit trepid about wandering down the pig slaughter hallway, feeling like a piece of bacon and all, aha
Congratulations on your first explore! I have yet to break my abandoned interior virginity myself. I hope my first time is in a place as cool as that.
Even if you did get caught, it sounds to me how you handled the security guard after the fact was well played out.

Many thanks! Will definitely be more on guard for next time. Never considered binoculars- what a good idea!

Their use is limited, but in large complexes and for distant observation they can be useful.
A pair saved me at Beth Steel.

I agree. It was a little eerie especially seeing as how some of the rooms still had electricity running to the lights! And thank you!
