For my sixth day trip to Detroit, we were able to visit seven locations, five new ones and two re-visits.
1. My favorite stop of the day was this church. Construction began in 1888 and the building was utilized by at least two congregations until 2009 when the church was closed. In 2016, the vacant church caught fire after an ember from a separate fire landed on the roof. The church was heavily damaged and most of the roof is now missing. While we were taking exterior shots, a neighbor lady approached us complaining about "all these white people coming in and taking pictures of that church."

16. Next door was the former fire station, closed around the same time. The new fire station is directly across the street and we spent a few minutes talking to a firefighter who was outside playing basketball. He told us that he started on the department just after the old station closed and that a few years ago, they finally got a grant to build the new one which looks pretty nice.

19. Most of the first floor was taken up by the apparatus bay where you can still see the holes where the fire poles once were.

20. Built in 1921, this former community center is famous in boxing circles, where numerous boxing champions got their start. It closed in 2006 due to its age, although a new gym with the same name has been built nearby and is currently in use.

28. We also saw a former bicycle racing track, a high-banked quarter-mile oval that has become somewhat overgrown and coated in graffiti.

29. I didn't take many photos at the re-visits but I did get a couple I liked. This was from an intermediate school.
