According to the locals (this was located in Runaway Bay, TX), the authorities suspected fraud/arson in order to collect an insurance payout.

No surprise here. Ive checked it out a couple times even though there looked like a couple semi permanent resident living in it. Main building was locked just the rooms were accessible, no great loss here. Had their own little boat ramp too.
