Has anyone seen or used a device like Arsenal? It look like this could be a benefit to people new to photography.

'Arsenal is the world’s first intelligent assistant for DSLR and mirrorless cameras. Ultralight hardware lets you wirelessly control your camera with an intuitive iOS or Android app. And advanced machine learning algorithms help you get the perfect shot every time.'

I tend no to use kickstarter... due to the fact that a lot of kick starter projects pull the plug and pocket the money. but it is a cool concept!

Wonder if it has a framing and composition mode

People need to learn how to shoot.
The cams already are packing a lot of processing power...
and of coarse there's always green mode

Sounds cool, if it's reasonably priced and actually works.

I agree with this but also could see the benefit if this was used as a learning tool. Compose as you know best, shoot, turn on the device and review suggested settings/changes, shoot and compare.

I think they are planning on launching retail at $250 which seems a bit steep to me. I might consider if it was around $100.

Just read a blurb online about it. Kickstarter pledges of $150 will get you one in about January. It didn't say what retail is expected to be. Here's the article if you're interested:

I'm considering getting one within the next month. Only 40 left in the current phase for 175 +$10. Next phase is retail at 250+10

One needs to learn to ask why and take the time to learn.
I see no satisfaction in substituting my creative talent with a program.
The same deal with contrast curve correction; my brain is better than software.
The brain has far more creative capabilities than any machine... if you train it.
Creativity is the one hard edge we have over software.

Remember photography is art... or it should be.

There's not really a way to 'learn' photography, I agree with blackhawk when he says photography is an art.

I kind of agree with the above /\/\. I mean I DO see some utility for something like this for someone starting out. Or even just someone who might like a nudge to try a different idea than their normal comp/settings. I know for me going from film to digital was a HUGE step up in quality for the simple reason of instant feedback from the view screen rather than a week later after processing. I could see a similar gain to be had with something like this.

That said, as we have been seeing with all sorts of learning algorithms attached to social pursuits that involve opinions rather than hard facts, they can have a tendency to quickly become sounding boards of self reinforcing sameness. IE would this sort of aid result in a sameness of photo comp based on likes and up-votes? I have no idea if it would or wouldn't but I could certainly see a possibility of an automated blandness and fatigue of style in the photo world as a result.

Give abandonment a reason for its sacrificial reclamation to nature. Love it. Remember it. Take a picture. Share it. Leave the decay to nature.
