I'd have to go with a Piper Cub or Aviat Husky.

You guys?

For me it would have to be the de Havilland DH-82 Tiger Moth. I've got pictures of my grandfather in one of them!

Mine used his Tiger Moth to smuggle watches from Europe into the UK. I've got his flight logs, and there are several 4 hour long solo flights with no destination listed, entered as he needed to track the engine time for maintenance.

Favorite aircraft is a four-way toss-up:

Republic P-47 Thunderbolt (affectionately known as the Juggernaut, or Jug)
North American F-86 Saber (probably the most elegant fighter ever to fly)
Douglas A-4 Skyhawk (Scooter! This was a little hotrod to fly. Imagine if it had a modern powerplant in it!)
Boeing B-47 Stratojet (the put the boogie in nuclear destruction)

Honorable mentions:

Vought F4U Corsair (the ensign eliminator)
Republic F-105 Thunderchief (The Thud- this thing was almost too BIG to be a fighter)
Messerschmitt Me-163 Komet (this nutty little machine was an insane little interceptor from World War II!)
Lockheed F-104 Starfighter (the widowmaker, missile with a man in it- the interceptor was brutally fast, but killed alot of its pilots. In fact, an NF-104A almost killed off the famous Chuck Yeager during a high altitude flight)

Anyways, thats my list and I'm sticking to it.

For classics, I'm gonna have to say the P-51 "post D" Mustangs. The sound is just incredible...

As for new planes that people actually use, I'd have to say that I am a huge fan of the Gulfstream G5, the Cirrus SR-22 (made in Minnesota, too ), also a fan of the Aviat Husky for a number of reasons, and we can't forget the Millenium Skyhawk SP just because I passed my flight test for my license in one...

The B-52 Stratofortress is probably the most successful bomber ever to fly. Consider that the original pilots' grandkids are probably flying this thing is a testament to its durability.

The A-10 Thunderbolt II sucks my ass :o( (i am being sarcastic...)
Reason being, a long time ago (well not that long ago), A-10's were operating out of Griffis AFB down near Rome NY. Anyways, we would see them alot in the Adirondacks. One of the things these guys loved to do was sneak up on people (No shit... there was a huge write up about in a late 80's/early 90's issu of Adirondack Life) and scare the shit out of them. You couldn't hear those turbofans coming up behind you.

I remember me and a friend of mine out frogging on Sherman Lake in Crown Point in a canoe... i was loading my .22, not paying attention to anything around me. Will was checking out the bank. I thought I heard 'something'. I turned around and i was staring down the barrels of that 30mm gatling... (!!!)
He was so low to us, the wash damn near threw us out of the canoe! I remember Will bringing his .30-.30 up, completely pissed something had snuck up on him... :oP

i know, off topic... sorry. I do miss the planes flying out of Plattsburgh and Rome. All that we have left, as far as I know are the 16's out of Burlington VT.

yeah i think i saw the corsair gets flying into burlington once when i was taking off, there is an air national guard base right next to it. My mom said that in the 80s she was at some hot springs near pueblo and a military jet flew over about 100 ft from the ground and scared the shit out of her.

w00t!! If I had the money, I'd buy one today. For al all glass cockpit and a left side stick, a powerful engine and safety chute that comes from the factory, and you get to go to Duluth, Minnesota (a gorgeous town) and watch it being built. The only thing that sucks is they often send new buyers to UND (my school) to learn to fly their new toys. Which I don't understand, because UND is NOT the best flight school in the Midwest, take my word for it. It's very good for the money, but every time I see a claim that they're the best I want to vomit. Long story...

I wish I could get one two, but 100,000$? I dont think so, it sounds nice but thats a little too much for an airplane. I'll settle for a skyhawk.

Brand new Skyhawk SP, equipped with a decent avionics package = somewhere in the neighborhood of $140,000 USD. My flight school in St. Paul is replacing their fleet of old 172R's with these...
