Ghost town Union Level, VA

My girlfriend and I drove up the east coast and found this spot and had to go and check it out on our journey. Union Level is a very small town in VA in Mecklenburg county. There are still a few houses and people living out there (188 as of 2010 census), but this strip of buildings remains abandoned since its old railroad trade died out. Within the little strip was general stores, a bank, an old church and a few indistinguishable buildings probably housing and maintenance sheds.

Most of the buildings are extremely boarded up, some have a few openings that I was able to climb into, but most of the floors were deteriorated and very sketchy. Behind the buildings was at least one other building and a few sheds, but nothing accessible. Though the best ways into the front buildings was around back.

Across the street from the strip of buildings was an old church, completely inaccessible unfortunately. There was also a lived in house not far behind it, probably the property owners. Nobody said anything to us, though we did see at least two other people driving by and one walking.

Overall it was a pretty cool spot, great for novices and expert urban explorers alike. There's a lot to see though most of it is either boarded up or rotted away, it's worth a visit if you're in the area!
