Thermal Camera Experimental Photography

So I recently bought a Seek Reveal Pro thermal camera (320x240 resolution) and tried taking some pictures with it and my regular camera side by side for some crazy new age space pictures. this is the result of messing around with some stuff.

Just thought it was kind of interesting, I will probably play around with taking more images like this but this is what I have for now.

Also look out for a thread from KPP2013, He will be posting some non BS pics from today. (I will edit in a link here when I see it up)

Very cool. I particularly like the last one. This style of photography is pretty rare, which is a shame- it looks awesome.

Thats pretty neat. I think overlaying bits of thermal camera images on top of normal pictures is a great idea

Luckily the price of these cameras is really dropping so hopefully more people start trying this out. There is a version of this camera that plugs into your phone and is only $500 for the 320x240 resolution or $250 for the 206x156. Still expensive but much lower than it has ever been.

I was just talking to a friend about how badly I want to try this! Still a bit expensive for me, but I am glad to see it dropping in price.

Now that's a new one! I love the idea, I've always been fascinated by thermal cameras. How'd you blend the images from the two together?

Definitely making a mental note of this.

So I just imported them into Corel Draw (though any editor with layers will do, such as GIMP) as two layers and used the transparency tool to fade the thermal layer away. then just do a whole bunch of resizing, rotating, and then crop as necessary for desired effect. There is still a whole bunco of stuff I could probably do but these are just a few ways I thought of for combining the images.

I'd say they came out pretty nicely. I love the first shot, kinda has a bit of a Scifi/Horror element to it.

Great job! You thought outside of the box here.

super cool! is the Seek Reveal Pro a higher-end model, or are there reasonably affordable thermal cameras with much higher resolutions around?

The seek reveal pro is the cheapest 320x240 resolution, otherwise for this resolution from flir is in the $1400 range. Seek has the best bang for the buck. It is a slightly different sensor Technology so there is a little more noise in the image but that's all stuff that matters for when you need precise temperature measurement.

TLR, it is the best bang for the buck on the market at the moment.

I wonder what it would do with flares and warm people in a cool storm drain. Very nicely considered photos!

That's actually a great idea! I bet you could do some pretty sweet stuff with that.

On a side note, if you took photos of people around an overgrown abandonment in a forested area, you could get some serious Predator vibes going.
