Looking forward to summer weather

NYC has been cold and rainy and terrible for too many months. Here's some throwback shots of a hospital in the area I visited on one beautiful August afternoon. Any feedback is welcome!

Anyone been here recently? I feel like I read somewhere that it was being renovated, but that was probably another place in the area considering how decayed this place is.

Did not realize how grainy these were until now...

Film is tricky and very intolerant of error.
Rarely do we see it much here anymore.
One the first things that caught my eye was your framing was well squared off.
A photo basic many are ignorant of here.

I'm glad you decided to share some images.
#3 is my fav

X2 On this. Point and shoot rains supreme to often. A good shot loses a lot of subtext from something as simple as a bad horizon.

What makes photography a strange invention is that its primary raw materials are light and time. John Berger

Even with a point and shoot you can compose and square off your shots.
As anyone who knows how to shot knows, there's more to it than just hitting the release.
Photography has a very steep learning curve.
I always liked people and action shooting because you need it all to come together in a few seconds.
It's very fluid... you need to go with the flow.
Lining up a keeper in a second or two is a kick ass thrill.

Shooting models is very challenging, a lot more parameters to oversee and it's an art form in its self.

Actually took these with an Android phone camera. Thank you though! I wanted to incorporate the feeling in some of these rooms of space and light. That would have been part of the treatment for patients when it was originally built, I bet. If sick people get light and air in a large open space they will get better, was the idea.

Androids running on Lollipop are tricky, glitch filled and user intolerant
Lol, I'm trying to be tolerant... it's a lick on me.

Open space was part of the plan... many times it wasn't enough.

Yup, just like many Modernist housing projects - architecture alone can't solve the problem. It's interesting to think about the history of psychiatric hospitals in the U.S. and how they were defunded due to their perceived ineffectiveness. Simply putting patients who need a lot of love and care in a Kirkbride hospital won't automatically cure them.
