Curated Abandonment #2
***A curated abandonment to me is one which has been left in the state it was in at the time it closed; has no maintenance but minimal deterioration (usually); my presence there is with full permission of the owner or curator.
PM me if you're interested in more info on this one! I work in a place that serves mental health needs for those who have a choice of incarceration or inpatient services so I tend to end up at a lot of mental health or hospital type facilities.
Cutting edge 1920's sanitarium designed, financed and run by a woman. This was a family run facility until 2001 when it was sold to a corporation who closed it in 2006. Now owned by the city it was available to visit as of March 2016. A mental health facility that took a very new approach to rehabilitation with a "healthy" dose of electroshock therapy to go with it! After working as a nurse in the existing state hospital style mental health system of Southern California this facility was opened with therapeutic rehabilitation in a pleasant setting as the model. Established to serve the female population this facility operated on the premise that women with mild mental health and nervous disorders could be treated in a beautiful and serene environment. I think they did indeed achieve their environmental goals. As time progressed the needs of the population changed and the facility adapted to serve women with dementia. Absolutely worth finding and visiting.
*Disclaimer: some objects are extant to the property and some are historically accurate items that the curator has purchased. The purchased objects are most of the historical medical items (some were found on site and preserved) and office pieces. Great effort was made to obtain items from the local area to keep them as authentic as possible. The items in patient rooms were left behind.

I really like typewriters. I have a sweet manual Hermes from the mid-sixties that I use on occasion. The junior high I attended had some great funding in the early 90's and we were lucky enough to take typing classes on both IBM selectrics and the sweet black and green motif of the Apple II.

I like 1920's bathrooms! I love huge bathtubs and this one happens to have my favorite color. I took a bunch of bathroom pics in this place as each one was a different color scheme; one even had a hair stylists sink
