*Edit*
I am so sorry for the image size, I did not realize till after I posted that I had the super duper large option selected on Flickr. I'll be glad to go back and resize them, but not now. Prolly wont be till Monday, I'm freakin tired, and will be up in Austin/Hutto/Pflugerville this weekend.

First one is near my office, I visited it quickly yesterday during my lunch, but went back today with some splorin gear I wanted to have with me. I do not know how long it has been vacant. On the wall was a calendar from 1965, but on the floor were newspapers from 1979.

1. Exterior of the first house. I was originally there to take a photo of a Historical Marker that was near by to upload to the page I shared in this thread. So this was a total chance find for me.

2. It was not a big house, with a main entry room flanked by two bedrooms and a kitchen on the back side. I did not see a bathroom. The piece of furniture to the left, in front of the book case is an old record player.

3. Just inside the door to the left was where a bookcase once stood, finally falling over and dumping it’s contents on the floor. It lies in front of the first bedroom. The floors throughout the house were littered with about 18” to 24” of debris. More books than you can imagine, newspapers, clothes. You name it. There were a couple of times that my head was brushing the ceiling due to the amount of stuff I was stepping on.

Next three are from one of the bedrooms. This one was to the left as you walked in, same side as the kitchen.

6.
No More Wire Hangers by Road Extx, on Flickr

7. The doorway into the kitchen. Guarded by some smiling demon. Note the wire clothes hanger with netting stretched over it, I’m guessing some sort of homemade bug catcher?

8. Kitchen was a mess like the rest. There was a large hole in the floor at the base of the fridge, next to the door. I made the assumption that there could be some other weak spots, and I did not want to find them. The fridge door was held shut by debris, and there were bees in this room that sounded like they were living in the wall where the door to the yard was, I decided to let them have it.

9. But not before leaning in for a shot of the old scale.

10. And the cobweb encrusted light fixture. Note the bee at the bottom.

11. The other bedroom, again, another room that was full of debris. The item in front was another book case that has fallen over, again, and uncountable number of books in this room.

12. Out back was a barn, with a TON of treasure. I would have loved to sift through it all, but there were a lot of critter scurrying around and I did not want to interfere with their daily goings on. Perhaps when they are on winter break. The farm equipment interests me, not too sure what it is. A hay baler perhaps?

Second house was about 40 minutes from my office, just around the corner in Texas. A buddy from work grew up in the house, and told me about it. Glad he did! There are a few spots around it that I will be revisiting when time permits. This house was quite a bit more empty, but still interesting.

13. Exterior. I’d bet money that that is asbestos siding on the exterior.

14. Christmas tree, an electric blanket for a window shade, and a subwoofer enclosure. My friend told me that after his parents sold the property it was rented out to a young man in his 20s.

15. He had quite the eye for décor.

16. Luckily I have an eye for spiders. I almost swallowed this bastard.

17. Laundry area was on the back patio.

18. Septic tank out back. I use a walking stick when I am walking around these places to probe for openings like that which would ruin my day if I stepped into one.

19. Pretty sure the spider killed whatever this was. On that note, can anyone identify it? I was thinking raccoon at first, but it seems a bit fangy.

20. Again, nice décor choice. I am sure the black spray paint on the windows was just as great as curtains. Notice the floor, this is the first house I have been in where the floors were bowed UP and not collapsing. Made for an interesting walking time. Some parts like walking on a giant inflatable.

21. The alleged “living” room as seen from the back door.

That is all for now, my contributions will be fewer and further between as the weather gets more inhospitable for my delicate senses.

Thanks for looking, I video recorded both locations, will post a link in the video section when it is up.

Toodles.

Maybe twenty years ago it was.... That place must have been a bitch to navigate, good job on getting in and out without sampling the spiders!

Wow...that place is crazy. The OCD part of me just wants to go in and clean it up. Like, a little mess is ok and expected in these places...but that stuff is *everywhere*.

Great job on finding a way through and bringing back some awesome shots.

I for sure took my time to make sure I had solid footing.

I want to put the bookshelves back up so badly. I am a book lover and seeing
those books strewn about like that actually upsets me a bit. One of the times
that the "Don't take anything" part of exploring bothers me. I want to rescue the books!

And I apologize again for the picture sizes, I was going to edit this morning but I did not know about this:

Nice work! Good eye too. I love these kinds of finds. They tell such great (though often sad) stories. The ones with lots of artifacts left behind are probably my favorite types of explores.
I feel you on the "delicate senses" thing too!

Love these larger than life photos! I can scan here and there looking for interesting things left behind. My absolute fave is the shot of the clothes hanging on those old rusty hangers. When you examine those clothes someone obviously didn't like sleeves and ripped them out of those dresses and shirts, lol. and, that cobwebby scale is just awesome.

I kinda want to go back again to look through the clothes. Lol it looks like a couple of suits in the back that has me curious.

I know what I'm doing for lunch on Thursday.

Wonderful photos. I liked that they were larger, allowing one to see the subtle details. If you go back to the place in photo 11, take a closer look at the religious(perhaps?) metals on the dresser.

OK! Used my expert photo editing abilities to merge two photos, seems I am not skilled to have gotten them both in focus...

While I was there I took some other pics too...

A better one of the scale, at least I think

Found some coupons too! I don't see any expiration dates!

Also found a bunch of bank statements dated 1957, in perfect condition,
with the wife's name on them, I was able to google and find dates that
these people passed away.

The man Joseph Paul, was born October 22,1901 in Kentucky, and died
April 9, 1957. His occupation was listed as a farmer, I also found
reference to service in a tank crew during World War II.

His spouse, Mary Agnes, was born July 21, 1923, and died July 9, 2010.
No occupation was listed for her, and I would gather from the calendar
that sometime around 1965 she might have moved into assisted living,
or with family.

I love seeing the metals, thank you! St Bernadette in the grotto. Appears the woman was very religious, with the Holy Name missal and such.
I do genealogy research, so I always enjoy looking up names of people I find in houses to see their history. It was neat to see the additional info you provided about those who lived there.

Great photos
