A few weeks ago I went to an abandoned crab shack with my step brother. There was an indoor dining area with the door unlocked, so I figured we'd have a look around. Here are some pictures I took.

On our way out the owner of the property caught us. He made it pretty clear he didn't want anyone in here, but he was pretty cool about it. He even offered to let us go back in and take more pictures if we weren't finished yet. Overall, I had a pretty good time.

Glad you had fun. Just make sure you're respectful of the location and the owners wishes and go blabbing about where the place is.

Photos are ok. With the crappy lighting, I would have done the whole site in black and white. Not sure if you do any post photo processing but if you do give it a try in B&W. The contrast in the dark and light will show up better, and you'll probably get more detail in the shots as well as giving it a "creepy" feel. Just a suggestion.

Edit:
Also if you can turn off that damn flash! Setting up a tripod with a long exposure time and a light source will illuminate the place better than a .009 second flash will and will eliminate the blowouts.

Yeah, I made sure to exclude any of the pictures that showed the name of the location or anything like that. And I don't normally do photo processing, but I'll definitely give the black and white a shot. Thanks for the advice!

Geez Peptic, I didn't know this was the critique section?!? I happen to like old bars and enjoyed seeing Pyro's pics. True some shots are a little dark, but you don't have to talk about the crappy lighting and his use of a flash like he committed a felony. LoL. We all start somewhere and it takes time to get lighting problems worked out. Hang in there dude! Cool place you found.

He posted in the photography forum and not the regional! I realize it's not the critique forum but when I see stuff in this forum I expect some artsy shit! (Which is why my stuff never makes it here). Just thought I would offer some helpful advice to a newbie. Trust me I've shot a lot worse but I've learned a lot from some of the amazing photographers here. My work is still not up to the level of most here but unless someone offers advice we'll never get better!

Don't want to steal your thunder kid. It was a good explore.

I was thinking about just leaving this alone. Which i probably should do. But, Ulcer,,,,isn't there always a way to offer advice in a less condescending way or offer none at all. Not everyone can achieve Artsy, nor do they want to. Some are just proud to share and be a part of things Remember when you started here and look at where you are now. Tons of difference, and What a Wonderful Location and pics you shared recently. I see Artsy in your future because that where YOU want to be, and can be. Give advice....Most definitely, but, be nice and understanding to those who are just starting out, OR, haven't found WHO they are yet. K.

Condescending? Moi? Lol

Ok you're probably right. Pyro I apologize. Keep at it, do what you think is good or what you like. Find your own voice and don't be afraid to try something different. Some of my best shots have come when I fiddled with the camera settings having no idea what I was going to get.

I hope my words haven't put you off from either the hobby or posting here. I have my douchebag moments...
