Just curious which of my fellow Massholes was there today. Can't think of anything there worth driving for except exploring. Extremely interesting place. Send me a pm if you're willing to 'fess up. I'll have some pics of my visit soon.

In the Fall, the risk minus reward didn't Ad up in my opinion.
It did seem like a good walk about though.

I went there a few years ago. The old hotel up on the hill was hard to get into, but with a little searching, we were able to find a way through a board that was not shut at the bottom. It was neat. The buildings along the river were neat too.

Very quiet little town.

I had easily one of my top ten exploring days of all time there in 2011. It snowed hard all day, about a foot overall, and everything was quiet and still and wide open and easy. Did the big hotel and the springs in the morning, took a break for some great coffee and lunch at the Black Cat Cafe, did two more hotels in the afternoon. Startled two red foxes while entering the hotel up on the hill.

^^ Yea this places was really neat. I too had some of my best exploring experiences here. We did a weekend campout here a few years in a row. I think 2011,12, and 13. In 2011, everything was wide open, untouched, and nobody in town really cared if you went in to take pictures. By 2013 things started to get a bit trashed in some of the buildings. Now I think a few are demolished. There was a lot more to see in that town than the 3 or 4 places that everyone was doing.
The people in that town are awesome and the Black Cat Cafe is great.

I witnessed a truck patrol twice. And a walker.

Another one of those places that I can't figure out how the kids prepared enough to bring spray paint and sharpies but not what to actually write. Just pitiful Godawful shit. Except this. This made me chuckle

I've talked to a few people who've met the caretaker of the big hotel on the hill and I hear he's quite the character. Very interesting town with an interesting history. Great place to just walk around and read the plaques about what used to be there or what the decrepit building there used to be. Unfortunately it was 10 degrees the day I was there but I think I'll actually go back again when the weather gets a little nicer. So far no one from Massachusetts has fessed up to being there that day. Next time I see that car somewhere I'll leave a note on it !!

I didn't realize explorers were still bothering to go here, it got so horribly trashed over the last 10 years. Ran into an angry homeless guy in one of the hotels but never tangled with the caretaker, especially after that one video that popped up on vimeo a few years back!

I haven't been since, but nothing was even remotely "horribly trashed" in 2011.

It wasn't that bad I guess. The big hotel on the hill is trashed. A couple smaller ones closer to downtown were ok. That was all I managed to see in one day. One very cold day !! I'll try to get some pics up later.

I don't remember "the hotel" we are all talking about here being vandalized greatly in 2012. I think there were just a few tags at that point but I could be wrong. I only very vaguely remember the place, we rushed through it so we could do the others and then head to Poughkeepsie later.

These were really the only pictures I took there.

It got trashed mainly in 2013. I ran into some 16yo taggers in a hotel up there and started talking with them. They were from the city and found the place on instagram.

I went in the early 2000's and returned several times with friends who had never been, my last trip was 2013 and the big hotel on the hill definitely took a turn for the worse, not just tagging and shitty graffiti but scrapping for copper, lots of holes and ripped up walls and general vandalism. Don't get me wrong, there was still plenty to see and photograph if you had never been before but I decided that was my last visit. Risk to reward ratio no longer paid off.

At least two of the rooms looks like people were living in there (after it was closed) when i visited back in 2014. The dining room had the table set up like it would have been back in the day too. Too bad the place got trashed. It was a really neat place, sad to see how it's looking now. Nothing like when I went.

I was there June of '15. It was a stop off on the way to The Catskills the next day. We did the big hotel and the house behind it. Was pretty quiet and didn't run into any people. We did however run into a VERY angry groundhog, or similar type of creature, in the basement. Also helped a bird who had become trapped on one of the upper floors.

The place was pretty trashed at that point. It had been well known for quite some time and did not resemble any of the interior shots I had seen previously. Still was a neat spot to spend a few hours. I wouldn't bother going back, especially since it seems the caretaker isn't fucking around anymore lol.

I remember seeing the "I found this place on UER" tagged and being both amused and irritated by it.
