I actually know somebody who died draining when a storm hit upstream.
They were a couple in Brisbane (Australia, not CA). She posted on Flickr for the both of them, and I had been following their explorations for couple of years before this happened.
http://www.brisban...150323-1m5tn5.html I think a lot of people underestimate how quickly otherwise non-threatening and seemingly-in-control situations can get out-of-hand... and how deeply trapped and fucked that feeling is when you realize you have no way out and this is possibly the last, terrible thing you will ever experience. All you will have is an abbreviated story punctuated by one last (possibly stupid and totally preventable) mistake.
