Hey there, more finds from out west in the rare time I have as I bumble through adulthood and full time employment. I will likely never stop adjusting to the change this is compared to my home of New England, for one thing there are so few buildings and such sparse history out here unless you're in for a day of driving or serious project.

As a result of the reduced subject matter I've pushed myself to be more artistic with shooting, quality over quantity as they say. Here are my findings as of late including a house on a truck and former sugar mill with plans for demolition...

Hovering Home
by Wєirdlig, on Flickr

When Walmart was built the home was moved but the owners never paid the truck driver so now it just sits in place. The truck, home, and land are all at odds to make one another useless.

Weeping

The Shut Inn
by Wєirdlig, on Flickr

Lazy Eye
by Wєirdlig, on Flickr

Bunker Down
by Wєirdlig, on Flickr

The obscure hangar-like structure is sealed tight but a glance through the window shows a once functioning home even with a kitchen sink and cupboards.

Opposing Values
by Wєirdlig, on Flickr

Two separate sections of the hovering home, the white door once lead to the basement but with the house on a truck now leads to a five foot drop.

True Blue
by Wєirdlig, on Flickr

Ever show up too early on a pre-dawn? Use the blue hour.

Early Retirement
by Wєirdlig, on Flickr

You Will Be Shot
by Wєirdlig, on Flickr

This building was very serious business, it also has 360 degrees of motion sensor lights and is surrounded by an active construction company and its workers.

Waka Waka
by Wєirdlig, on Flickr

You'll see in a future shot that these machines have been heavily tagged and vandalized, fortunately I've become very skilled and patient with cloning in Photoshop over the years and was able to restore them to glory. I always wonder, did the workers paint them this way for morale prior to abandonment or was this the work of explorers like you and I?

Dead End Job
by Wєirdlig, on Flickr

Vines and bramble seal the door over decades.

Elephant In The Room
by Wєirdlig, on Flickr

About four floors up you can view these large furnaces through a massive missing wall, they reach from the basement to a floor so high it no longer has walls.

Sugar Rush
by Wєirdlig, on Flickr

Exit Strategy
by Wєirdlig, on Flickr

The Getaway
by Wєirdlig, on Flickr

Here we see the current state of vandalism.

Skeletons In The Closet
by Wєirdlig, on Flickr

A dark locker room seemed uninteresting until the shadows had been embraced as a frightening narrative.

Bad Habits
by Wєirdlig, on Flickr

Specifically this is lime dust which can burn skin, eyes, and lungs especially if wet or inhaled. This day was cold and wet and I remained largely still, furthermore the type used here is intended to purify the sugar extracted from beets and has a low toxicity.

Ruptured Cell
by Wєirdlig, on Flickr

The spilling lime seen from a catwalk above.

Ups And Downs
by Wєirdlig, on Flickr

Oddball
by Wєirdlig, on Flickr

Added Sugar
by Wєirdlig, on Flickr

It seems the canister that held this lime was ruptured by an exterior brick wall that collapsed in onto it, I would not have wanted to be present on that day.

Claustrophobia
by Wєirdlig, on Flickr

The elevator shaft door slammed in the wind and kept me looking over my shoulder. That day was so windy that pieces of the ceiling fell, one even hit metal and sparked in front of me leading me to think I was under some type of attack by a hobo with matches.

Hard To Get
by Wєirdlig, on Flickr

Another shot with hours of cloning and graffiti removed.

Lateral Promotion
by Wєirdlig, on Flickr

Thanks for looking!

That abandoned house on abandoned truck is very very odd and I love it.

And the sugar refinery is equally awesome, my kind of place.

Amazing job on the graffiti removal. You must have the patience of Job!

Hope you find a way into that Quonset hut "bunker" house someday.

Thanks much! I used to drive by both locations on the way to an old job and eventually the curiosity would have driven me insane. I would love to see more of the sugar mill but with repeated arson they don't take kindly to folks even getting close anymore.

Excellent work on that graffiti removal.

Thanks a bunch! It's taken a long time but finally I've learned to clone out anything, personally I cannot tolerate tagging.

Thanks! Definitely were some of the few times I've been able to have fun in a while. But you'd be surprised, this is all a twenty mile radius!

Thanks, monochrome is new to me so I've had to learn to literally "embrace the darkness" since before I was always trying to show every detail. In mono things work better with mysteries in the shadows. Thanks for your compliments on the Pacman tanks as well, I was so let down to see they had been damaged that badly hence the dedication to restoring their glory.

And yeah, I literally thought hobos were after me. That's a big thing in Colorado, I've explored homes with homeless inside two times in the last year (they were kind enough to let me). I barely slept that night, had to prepare someone else for a flight and drop them off so I'm surprised I was even able to shoot. Every sound made me think I was in trouble!

Thanks! So glad I took the time with the graffiti, I just wish there was a way into the bunker! Believe me I tried lol.

Thank you! I also hope someday to see the bunker but I'm not a B&E kind of person and "asking nicely" does so little as we all know. I'm aware it's a style of housing in this area since I've seen others find them (I've seen only this one) so I hope to find an accessible one if nothing more.

I was thinking that exact same question while viewing the photo before I even read this.

Yeah, I keep hoping some super old explorer or even former worker will just pop up and answer that lol. Thanks for your comment, glad you enjoyed

Thanks a ton and thanks for following so intently on Flickr too! The blue room was the attic, I was trying to let the homeless guy sleep but also kill time lol. It's really too bad about the tagging, I've seen older photos and they're clean. I think it all happened in the last couple years.

Thanks, Buddy, I'm glad there's at least a few buildings between the large fields of dead yellow grass out here lol. I kept worrying I'd run out of things to shoot until I decided to take on these two locations.

Wow, I'm impressed! You have some real winners in this set that blew my mind. The staircase shot (Exit Strategy) seriously looks like it was taken underwater on a shipwreck. And the sugar refinery is wonderful!
