Power Plant 'Intercom'

This huge power plant was built in 1921 and expanded in the 60s and 70s. It closed permanently in 2007 and in the last few years it has been gutted by copper thieves and weird demolition companies. I say weird because they are dumb enough to remove parts of the supporting structure. The entire interior is warped, pieces of steel are folded in ways you wouldn't believe is possible, now and then you hear something snap under the pressure. Oh, and they removed a shitload of stairs and floors so you have to free climb your way to the good stuff. Broken, beat and scarred but still loads of fun!

14 and 27 are Wows! Never seen anything like 14. Looks like some mechanical filtration heavy industrial equipment! Nice post. I could really go for some Power Plant aroma right now.

Hit me up if you ever come to Portland Oregon!

14 is actually the belly of a steam turbine.

I can't believe how much of a mess this place has become. Having said that I visited it in 2012 which is quite a while ago now thinking about it. Considering what an utter bitch it used to be to get into back then it's amazing how much can change so quick.

It got hit seriously hard by metal thieves in 2013, they were actually camped out living inside the place for a while.

By means of comparison with your photos of the big turbine 24 & 25...

In agreement with 14 being an outstanding shot...but, also love the entire control board network in #4. Some Awesomely cool massive machinery here. Your photos are always a pleasure

Thanks!

@mookster, it's insane huh? Though I have to admit that I've always skipped this one because it was looking to 'new' for me back in the days. I'm a sucker for decay and textures and now it has that rough edge to it. I only regret having missed the control room intact.

Most industrial sites are being plundered now in Belgium. Security is fading away and copper thieves are having a feast. At HF B I met three different groups of copper thieves casually stripping cables. The turbines of this amazing hundred year old power plant have been ruined last month, which hurts extra because it was our own discovery at the end of 2016. It has been standing there forgotten for decades and the moment some other explorers start following our footsteps the copper thieves come and rip it apart. I found it hard to believe that this was a coincidence, but according to other explorers the groups of copper thieves are just moving from building to building in that area.

The Intercom/Electrabel grounds are now completely accessible and you can walk straight into the building, but they removed every single set of stairs to the first floor, so to get to the turbines you have to free climb a bit. Getting to the control room is something else too as most of the floor grating has been removed.

So funny how similar this place looks to the Hearn factory here in Toronto. Awesome shots! Might have inspired me enough to go do some re-visiting to my favourite spots this weekend (:
