Found homemade porn ethics

Last weekend my friends and I hit the motherload. We found what appears to be the former home of a body makeup artist who left behind a lot of pictures of himself painting womens bodies for what looked like some kind of official event, ca 2002.

I posted the pictures to a private Facebook group for Korea urban explorers, mentioning I was searching for the line to draw about posting the images publicly, but that it was becoming obvious the only answer was not to share.

It kicked off quite a discussion, with some saying it is okay to share the ones where faces are cropped out or hidden behind masks (something a law student in our group disputed), and others calling it art and thus good to share. Also the fact these pictures were abandoned opens up the idea that we are free to do with the images whatever we want, and as long as we didnt break any laws getting to them, its all good. Which seems like saying once consent is given, it cant be revoked.

This has stirred up all sorts of bad feelings and expat Americans talking about rape culture. My ultimate decision is that the worst that could happen is we ruin someones life, and the best that could happen is we get a few likes on social media.

Probably everyone else is passed out by now as it is 4am our time, but it sure would be swell if the people of UER could fix this problem by the time we wake up in the morning/afternoon.

I feel that so long as the faces of people are blurred out it should be at ones own discretion whether or not to post the pictures. If the face is blurred its pretty unlikely for the person to be ID'd.

If it seems like a bad idea, it probably is.
It's also your reputation at stake.
Blurred out faces are lame and it completely degrades the images, don't.

I would not post them and I don't -need- to see them.
I wouldn't give a rat ass if it got likes.
Those are my first thoughts.
They are a curiosity and shouldn't be destroyed.
I'd sit on them, maybe for a very long time and then decide.
No rush and -you- have something unique to enjoy

Note, faces aren't the only way to ID someone...

Now i'm just super curious what the images look like and desire to see them. I think that you could like create an Imgur set and like send direct links to people if your really wish to share with select people "you think" that would not take offense to the images. If you do! Forward some to me. I appreciate artistic Indi porn/erotic images and it's actually one of my joys finding while exploring. But like others have said, I too would not post them public here. As far as Answering the question why would you post them if they are not your pictures. Well did you take pictures of the pictures or scan them. LOl. So much thinking!

Isn't it against Facebook rules to post pictures of naked people, even tho' it's in a private group?

Once you start distributing them any way they are no longer private.
All bets are off, obviously...

I wouldn't post them. I may not know the laws in South Korea, but I know many US states have laws against posting nude content of someone without their consent. This is mainly to stop "Revenge porn," but a good lawyer might be able to argue that it extents to this if someone in the photos gets ID'd from a distinctive scar, birthmark, or tattoo.

Even if you face no legal repercussions, being known as "that dude who posts nudes without consent" is something you probably want to avoid.

I wouldn't post them. Maybe the artist never intended for them to go public. If I didn't create the images and wasn't in them either I'd feel weird distributing them in any way.

That is to say, they gave their permission to the original photographer to use the images. Not you.

You found an interesting little stash of curiosities, but they are only yours by virtue of the fact that you have physical possession of them.

You do not hold either the copyright or the consent forms. But that is only US law, South Korea law may vary but I can't imagine it would be by that much. So hold onto and enjoy your little cache of art that you have found, As far as disseminating it on the internet...

Well, if you have any concerns about ethics in the first place, then you already have your answer.

If anyone is wondering, we basically found this but with less paint and more pubic hair.

https://lifeoutsid...ng-festival-korea/

As for the images, what I took was pictures of lost photographs amid abandoned art supplies. I really dont know the legality of taking pictures of pictures but the compositions are essentially my creation, not just sharing basic scans of the pictures.

Asking about whether I should share these sorts of pictures makes me wonder if we should ever share any abandoned photos we find.

These are copyrighted images and perhaps art as well. Copying a copyrighted image and posting it is infringement...
An abandoned building is just that... unless you copying someone else's image of it and use it without their permission.
Legally a photo is copyrighted the moment you captured it. Registering it increases the monetary penalties for misuse of it and makes it easier to search/prosecute unauthorized misuse.

That's my interpretation.

That being your interpretation, we should be careful never to take a picture that has another image in it, including copyrighted images and corporate logos.

I was being kind... yes,well... it's infringement if the copyright is in force.

As I said, the pictures I got are not the picture, they are part of the picture. In many cases they're stacks of pictures that come together in a collage kind of way. Though at the end of the day, copyright is not the issue at the heart of the matter.
