Welcome to the land of radioactive isotope testing on your morning breakfast oatmeal. Better eat it up quick though as demolition has started. Anyone know what the one remaining active building is used for? Quite strange that this property which was fully shuttered two years ago has a building with police and staff activity moving in and out all throughout the night.

Demolition started? I saw no signs of that last time I was there. That's too bad.

Indeed we did a drive through recently and there's a whole section slated for demo and buildings marked.

It was a state school used to house children with disabilities.

The active building is a nursing home. They have their own security/police, similar to mental health police. The town police hangout there too. This is one of my favorite places but I've seen no signs of demo any of the times I've been there.

I'll upload a video later on of the drive through of the campus.

Place is scheduled to be knocked down starting spring, it was bought back by the city and will be done in sections. I know someone that got arrested there and i have seen the police there while i was there before. I know a few explorers that had to hide till police left. Nothing to interesting to shoot but still a cool spot with a crazy history. The real old stuff is a mess and has fallen in.

Here are some slides I scanned from the hospital. I used the clone tool to clean some of them up. I'll post a few of my favorites and the link is to the album from my flickr photodump with some more.

These are awesome! A good friend of mine who is local to the area found some interesting photographs in there. I was under the impression that they were actually planning on keeping some of the structures since most of the modern buildings are in okay shape. Of course I'm not closeby enough to stay up to date on things. Thanks for the info!

What was he arrested for just for the fact he was trespassing or was there more of an issue? Curious as I haven't had a run in with them yet. However I have read news articles about people getting caught there.

Im not good friends of the person who got arrested its more a friend of a friend i know. But it was for trespassing. The police there pay close attention. Google the name of location city and trespassing and you see the articles about it. Also there are recent enough articles that talk about the demo plans.

I think i removed all tells and highlighted the problems lol. This article is recent enough. I use to work down the street from the location so i seen the police there a lot. I have been there a few times but only got to shoot once.

ERROR

For what it's worth, I've seen the town police on all of my visits there. It's a difficult place for many reasons. But well worth it.

Looks like it's less than two dozen non historic buildings getting the axe. The article I was reading makes it sound like they want a combo of historic buildings and open space, which is pretty cool. Most of what I've seen on the campus was empty and modernized so I imagine some of the more photogenic stuff may stay.

Nice photos and stories, bummer there's going to be some buildings demo'd. I took a spin through there a few years ago and got some shots but I didn't stay long. I know they are pretty strict about trespassing. I work at a mental health facility very, very close to there
