I'd consider this probably my first actual explore of a condemned property. I'm a rather anxious person, and I'm always paranoid about hurting myself, getting caught, or getting stuck in a building. The two last attempts I went on, I either couldn't get inside, or I wasn't brave enough to squeeze through a narrowly-open door.

Anyway, this church is in a fairly visible location, and is currently being 80% demolished for a condo. I don't want to post more info because it's visible from a major street and is horribly easy to get into. I regret going earlier when there was more to see, but if anyone wants to brave the cold with me and go back, let me know. There wasn't much in the way of objects left behind. Everything has been gutted on that regard, but I'm sure there's a way to the balcony and more basement to see.

What a shame. Are they taking the tower down with it too?

No, they're keeping the front doors and the bell tower, but the rest is turning into an ugly glass building. I wish Toronto was more consistent with church developments because there are a couple really well-done ones. But the rest are downright ugly.

Every time I was in hear i never had a good camera to document the church with.

Their is another place just north of Spadina village is interesting too.

Damn, had been meaning to hit this place up for months now, although it's some consolation that I will still get a chance to get up the tower since it's not being demoed. Nice shots btw, I feel like you captured the usually unseen parts of the church really well.

As far as I could see, not an easy way to the roof. In hindsight there was a door I didn't try that after looking at the picture I took of it, was probably not locked and I could have used it to get to the balcony and the tower.

I'm a total wuss.

That's a pretty neato spot, is it still good to go at?

I was going to go back tomorrow if you want to join me (PM me, I'll be on pretty late). They're actively making progress, so I'd say you're nearing your last chance.

Bumping this thread with a set I captured on January 15th, and edited recently. On this trip, I went at dawn. (A complete coincidence: I went back that morning after a sleepless night.)

I'm working on my set from Mr. Christie's. Hopefully I'll have some up by the end of the weekend.

Why do these demolition companies never salvage any of the beautiful woodwork or stained glass? That's gotta be worth more as salvage than trash, right?

The stained glass will most likely be kept along with the front bit of the church.

Overall though, Toronto in almost all cases doesn't care about any amount of preservation. It's amazing how many old photographs of the city you can find with gems that aren't around today.

(I didn't see your location of Kitchener. You probably already know what I just wrote )
