In Memoriam, Part 2...

The first part had a really positive reception which I was most pleased by, in that thread I covered notable places which I explored between the middle of 2011 and the end of 2013 which are now one way or another not explorable any more. In this thread I will concentrate on those from 2014 up until 2016.

If I was to include places from my first couple of years of exploring - summer 2009 to summer 2011 - almost everything I explored during that period has gone so it would be a much too big a thread to manage!

Here is a continuation of an online memorial of sorts to places that are no longer with us.

Pianoforte Supplies LTD. A former manufacturer of piano parts which closed in 1982, the factory was split into three sections with public paths running between them. Whilst mostly completely empty, the old casting forge section was intact and a beautifully rusted time capsule. The largest part was taken over and used to produce car parts until that too closed in 2012. It was completely demolished in 2016.

Centrale Thermique Power Station (Luxembourg). One of the real 'oldschool' European explores which had been around for absolutely ages, I finally managed a visit not long before demolition began in 2014.

7

George Dyke Forgeworks. Otherwise known by it's other name, the porno forge, owing to it's workshop stacked with an eyewatering array of pornographic material. Demolished 2015.

RAF Daws Hill. One of the minority of Royal Air Force bases which didn't utilise any runways, it closed in 2013 and was starting to be pulled down at the end of 2014! Very short period of opportunity with this one, various explorers came face to face with knobhead security with dogs, or police, but I think as it was absolutely pouring down with rain when I visited we got away with it. Didn't get to see all that I wanted which included the main theatre but there you go.

Bellerby's College/Legat School of Dance - a success story with this one, now being converted into luxury apartments! This place was nuts, for years it was deemed inpenetrable thanks to loose guard dogs roaming around inside and outside and security stationed right out the front, but then they kind of..went part time for a month. Some days they just wouldn't be there, it was pot luck and I got lucky.

Frith Park/South Wales Chemical Company. Confusingly nowhere near Wales, another former mansion which sadly was demolished in 2016. At some point a fire had taken out the entire roof and attic floor, and there was an enormous tin roof construction put over the top. It was a deathtrap inside but such a beauty.

Deluxe Film Processing Laboratories. My favourite explore of 2016, there was literally a three week window when this was explorable and I caught it just at the right moment, right before it was too stripped out and before anything had been demolished. Luckily the front building is being saved as it's an extremely important building in the history of art deco architecture. There was so much movie history in the walls of this vast building - the biggest and most important film processing facility outside of Hollywood.

Excellent
Beautiful sites and images.
Just keep an eye on the squaring.

Many times ditching the tripod to get at the right height or angle off is worth it. You can capture a lot more keepers many times free shooting because it takes less time to set them up and you have greater flexibility.
Try it a couple times until you get confident with the results. May want to shoot a couple extra frames per image because shake will happen in some. Good to at least 1/30th sec if you brace the cam and are smooth. Works best with a pro cam; the added weight and better grips make it easier to stabilize, the brighter viewfinder helps as well.

Just when I thought I was out... they pulled me back in.
