| | | Final trip of the year. < on 12/31/2016 12:30 AM > | Reply with Quote
| | | Took off work the last two weeks of the year, got in two good trips to visit a whole bunch of spots that had been on my list for a while. A friend of mine has been ready to try out some exploring with his new camera so we hit the road early yesterday morning. Probably had about twenty locations that I had pinned on my google earth to check out, but I think we really only visited five or so. Two or three were locations that were not planned but just stumbled across. Those are always my favorites. The final destination was down south a ways, I have seen plenty of photos here from the location. Seems to be a pretty well visited spot. So here are the pics, with a few thoughts on each location. Starting at the end of the trip. Our end destination, we skipped three towns that I had flagged to get here while there was still some sunlight. We wrapped up just as the sun was about to say goodnight. The two school buildings were totally trashed. Some interesting things to see, but I really wanted a bath after visiting. The Auditorium was cool. My first one that I have gotten into that had intact seating, mostly. Noticed the original gym next door, it was open and was being used for some basketball games. We did not disturb them. 1. School Front by Road Extx, on Flickr 2. School front by Road Extx, on Flickr 3. Building Dreams by Road Extx, on Flickr 4. Office Chair by Road Extx, on Flickr 5. Bye bye birdie by Road Extx, on Flickr The following photos were from a house that we randomly found driving around. The house had four rooms downstairs in the corners of the structure, with a central hallway, that contained the stairway to the second floor. Each room downstairs was set up as offices, there was no kitchen, or bathroom. Switches, outlets, and lighting were run along the walls exposed. There were two chimneys, on between each pair of rooms. All signs point to the building being built before electricity or indoor plumbing. From papers we were able to find, one of the office rooms belonged to the local postmaster general. I absolutely LOVE some of the cabinets that were within that office. It is a shame to see it wasting away like it is. The bathtub was upstairs and was slid down the stairs, looks like it then got stuck at the base. I am thinking someone wanted a nice claw foot tub but could not get it any further. The second floor was in bad shape at the top of the stairs. I could see through it and sections of it were sagging. I should have gone on that diet! 25. Front of house by Road Extx, on Flickr 26. House Profile by Road Extx, on Flickr 27. Bedroom by Road Extx, on Flickr 28. Top of stairs by Road Extx, on Flickr 29. The crates that were stored in one of the rooms were marked “Property of the US Government” Pretty sure we found a top secret government facility. All the doors were padlocked, and there is no way I would fit through one of those windows. Really liked the building though! 41. School by Road Extx, on Flickr 42. School by Road Extx, on Flickr 43. There were multiple buildings but this one had the least activity. There were a few contractors walking around, but they ignored us. Literally, I tried talking to them and they looked at me and walked away. Lol I stopped here because my dad went to this school back in the 50s and thought he would like to see some pictures. The dyestone over the front arch had the date of 1931. 46. School by Road Extx, on Flickr 47. Locker Room by Road Extx, on Flickr 48. School Hallway by Road Extx, on Flickr 49.
