And this site is torn to shreds, or zoned as though it belongs to a standard suburban property across the street, and situated isolated in a large field with no roads leading to it - is it worth investigating? Some places look once-grand but war-torn, but i'm not sure if i'll find alarms, or traps, or residents, or something.

Maybe from a distance over a period of time?

Unknowns are part of exploring.
It's what makes it fun.
Sure things are for tourists...

Agreeing with Olive on this one...sounds like something that we might already know and love...

...so go check it out! Definitely worth looking further into, I say.

Truth.
Google is useful for pre-scouting and planning.
For decades there was no google...
Nothing takes the place of eyes/hands on.
Most of the sites I've done aren't on the DB...
It's fun to occasionally look through though.

Agreed.

Google is great for initial scouting and site history research, but there's a lot of stuff that doesn't show up. There's an entire town up in Monterrey County that isn't really on the net at all, save for some small railroad history.

...You'll still find the best spots by driving around, or otherwise doing recon in person.
