Jumping the gun a bit on this, but I don't think I'll be doing much exploring before the new year (maybe a bit around Christmas time, but we'll see) so here goes!

Started off 2016 by heading out to a local state park with a friend and taking a bunch of night shots and doing a little astrophotography.

Later in January, I decided to head up to a local asylum that's in the process of being demolished (albeit slowly). Probably will head back here at some point in the near future.

I explored a local paper mill I'd wanted to check out for a while and took some of my least favorite pictures ever (I went back later to fix this!).

Also in January, I managed to get inside a minimum-security prison that was abandoned a few years back.

On the same day I did the prison, I took shots at an old training school for the mentally disabled.

Still in January, I went to an abandoned coal power plant. One of the trickiest approaches of the year, especially given that there was about a foot of snow around the site!

I actually went to try to get inside a former medium-security prison, but access was impossible, so I went to my backup and took photos of the nurses' housing at an abandoned sanitarium.

You may be getting the sense that January was a busy month for me this year... I also drove a couple hours and got some shots of an asylum's modern hospital wing and rec center.

In February I started doing some street photography. These are from Hartford, CT.

And from New London, CT, where I got some neat shots of the local skateboarders.

And New Haven, CT.

At the end of February, I went up to a slightly more modern style of asylum. Another location I plan to revisit sometime soon.

In March the weather was nice, so I went out to an abandoned Civil War fort in RI.

I heard about an abandoned factory in the area, so I went to investigate that.

I did a couple surrealist images in response to Burger King's #ChickenFries promotion.

I did a photo shoot at an abandoned factory with a couple friends - a local rapper and a couple fellow photographers.

I went to the same factory for some architectural shots as well (actually taken the day before but processed later).

In late March I got a tip from another photographer about some interesting abandoned houses in the area (it's like a little abandoned neighborhood - another place I plan to go back to sometime).

In April I actually got permission from a town up in NH to take photos of an abandoned school some family members mentioned to me. Two of these shots are in the local historical society now and my work was featured in the local paper.

In late April (back in CT), I finally upgraded my camera to a full-frame body. The first thing I took pictures of was a local sanitarium, which was the first place I took photos of last year when getting back into urban exploration and photography again.

With my new camera and several months of photography skill improvement, I went back to the paper mill.

And that was my year in a very large nutshell. It's been a pleasure to share some of my experiences with everyone here.

The rest of the year is mostly working and traveling and relaxing a bit with my family - then back at it in the new year!

Great shots! I especially love the "phokus" one. You've definitely been to some great locations. I'm not a huge fan of those diagonal shots in the middle, but I don't think I've ever seen a diagonal shot I liked.

Whoa!

When I say I'm 'clean and sober', it means I've showered and I'm headed to the liquor store.
