Someone that's been hit by scrappers or had construction debris dumped on their property are going to suspicious of anyone coming to their turf than someone who's not been fucked with.

There's been a few scrappers here who pretended to be "explorers". People like those make exploration tough for everyone else. It's become diluted but not so diluted to be friendly to those casing or "exploring" for opportunity to steal or cause damage.

I've gotten scrappers arrested. Part of being a "friendly" is not turning a blind eye to felonies you witness.
I've gotten permission and locations to sites from the state police.
-zero- tolerance to scrappers and felons.

If you're just a fly on the wall unwilling to get involved, you're a pest just like the rest.

I can agree to everything I've seen here. Preservation of the majesty is paramount. We used to have to Belle Promenade for a brief time. It made it's float through time and became left alone. And it wasn't at a point when just about every walking being had a camera; maybe somebody had a disposable at the time. Before it was all torn down. But the old JC Penny survived the demolition, and loomed like a dark memory over Marrero. Of course, every kind of person made their way through the place and before long was simply a hundred-foot-tall shell of a place.

It can't be allowed to happen.

When it comes to general access, it helps not to be seen with a large bag. I carry a small pack, maybe six inches by four inches. Enough to carry a few power bars, some gauze and tape, maybe some braided metal line. But nothing that would give anybody an excuse to say I came in a place to steal or destroy.

A buddy of mine seems to have good social engineering skills. He'll walk right into the back of a place and to the top floor, just on acknowledging people around him. That's a special kind of rush.

While I do enjoy going places where I'm allowed to be, I don't feel like that necessarily describes urban exploration to me. I enjoy going to see historical sites and guided tours, but it tends to evoke different feelings than exploring does. I think the rush of being somewhere you're not supposed to be, combined with the excitement of getting past an obstacle that's in place to prevent you from going exactly where you want to go can't be matched. I'm all for seeing the sights you can "the legal way", but I'm not entirely sure that I'd call it urbex myself, though I'm sure some would argue that it still counts.

#3 is the worst idea possible in my region - any contact with the Pope is suspicious.

Just get permission from the owner and you're good.

Easy, "social engineering" is widely misunderstood but for many, it just means discarding your ethics and lying to people.

Like most hobbies or sports, you get out of this what you put in to this. Nothing ventured nothing gained. Or maybe just stick to drains.

When I was younger I pulled the "I'm looking for the bathroom and I'm lost" card at cowboys stadium, surprisingly it got me into the press box for about 2 minutes. Don't know if that really classifies as social engineering but it's on the same plane.

Im not convinced it means discarding ethics. It could mean just pretending to be on the phone when you walk past security. I use my journalistic credentials to try to open doors sometimes, despite not going there for work. Nothing criminal or that would get someone fired, though social engineering could resort to that in other hands.

I must have been WAY off in what I thought social engineering was. I thought of it as when you just "charm" your way into place.

Perhaps its a girl thing?

Maybe y'all should try a short skirt and some lipstick and see where it gets ya LOL Kidding..........but I guess I do tend to think of it as flirting my way in.

As someone that has absolutely no flirting skills, and also has been escorted out of a place by security while in a dress, my forte definitely lies more in looking and acting like I belong somewhere rather than batting my eyelashes at the guards. On that note though, I'm sure that charming your way in is just as much of social engineering as seeming like you're supposed to be somewhere, both use your ability to interact with people and make them think and do what you want them to.

On that note, 0/10 recommends climbing a ladder in a dress. Horribly inconvenient.
