Hey all, so i recently posted some pictures on Facebook of me and my friend exploring a drain tunnel underneath a restaurant, should i take them down? Do police bust people for posting pictures of exploring these places?

Just so, yes well... I refuse to use Facebook let along post anything incriminating on it. Doubtful it will get you busted unless you go wombat stupid with it. However prospective and current employers may view it. More than one person has lost their job from a post(s) on there.
Not a good idea to use Facebook at all as far as I'm concerned.
It's a security and high level privacy risk. Do you really want -everyone- to see it?
Your call.

You should obviously be careful with any details that could identify a location or entry points. But otherwise I'd more expect the police to catch your photos posted in a public forum on UER before bothering to plunge the depths of social media.

If you tag the images with a bunch of information about the location and you, then of course it can be searched for or randomly stumbled upon much easier.

If you DON'T tag the images with anything, then there is pretty much zero chance anyone will find it, with the exception of the website you posted it on, at the time of posting.

While it's unlikely to be an issue with the police unless they go looking (or stumble on it if your settings are set to public), I wouldn't advise leaving them up. Employers do look at your page as part of the hiring process.

I personally keep my social media accounts as far away from urbex as possible, just to be safe. I would recommend doing the same, though it depends on the circumstances. If you had permission to explore and broke no laws, then I would think posting on social media is probably fine. But if there is anything even remotely in a legal grey area (as most explorations tend to be), I'd keep it separate from social media.

Also, naturally, don't post anything that could be used to find a location, don't post pictures of yourself being unsafe/stupid, and use common sense.

I post all urbex stuff on facebook/instagram/my website under my real name, have done so for years, with no issues. I've spoken about my exploring to police officers, city Councillors, construction company executives/employees, municipal water employees, and none of them seemed to give a damn. The police have more important things to worry about, and unless you're stealing things, burning places down or exploring active military or nuclear sites, you're not doing anything criminal (at least not in Ontario). If you're not caught on the property its very difficult for them to ascertain when you were there, or confirm that you even took the pictures. I have numerous framed exploring pictures hung throughout our office, and I'm always happy to explain their origins to new clients and people who come through. I wouldn't want to work at a place that was so stuffy and fucked they couldn't appreciate what I do.

I can personally verify that the FBI does make unannounced house calls.
That personal touch
They're polite, professional and highly trained.
They are empowered to enforce any federal, state or local laws; not a good idea to piss them off.
Yes, well... be careful where you point you're cam and what you post or you may get a first hand experience. If so I suggest you tell them the truth; they give you one shot to come clean. If they want, a determined agent can really lean into you hard.

Goggle searchable images present a special risk if it happens to contain something that is under their scrutiny.
They like to make contact with people of potential interest. They have the resources to find you most times quit easily, just so.

How'd you draw the attention of the FBI? Did they see you at a missile silo or something?

I've got images up from explorations, but all the ones I have posted are of buildings that have since been torn down.

Excelon power plant (in background), check
Shoot while standing on top of Chester Power Station, check
Commodore Barry Bridge from Chester PS roof, check
Sunoco Refinery from Chester PS roof, check
Maybe even a barge or two, check
Repeat 3 times on 3 consecutive days, check
Shoot in plain sight within a smart cam network, check

What could go wrong? Bah-ha-ha-ha

I don't use FB at all, except for managing an account for work.

IMO, realistically, you're fine posting whatever. I've seen plenty-child posting much much more illegal activities with no backlash. Not sure how many people are tasked with individually checking photos to see if the location looks public or private, and judging by your face whether or not you asked for permission to be there.

LEOs don't always react to one image or act immediately even if they're aware of it. The worst is when they wait and let you dig yourself in deeper.
Or see who else they can implicate. Bait

Lol, at any time when I was in Chester they could have approached me. They chose to observe.
Had I done anything criminal... I'd been so fucked.

TIP: Make a page dedicated to Urbexing, upload photos there. Don't show faces, don't mention addresses, just general locations (like the neighborhood or city name). Make it seem like you're a professional, less likely to be targeted as a vandal or thief that way in case someone does want to report you.

Here's my page for example. Just started, but it gives you an idea.

ha, ya my boss knows I do this. I Show him my pics. I dunno, I guess it depends on what place youre posting. For myself, I feel the cops have more important things to care about than to scour facebook looking for urbexers. If they really wanted to bust people, all they had to do is search urbex tags on instagram, facebook, twitter etc and they'd find tons.

Facebook is an unacceptable liability and security risk. Data miner.
Prospective and future employers may not be so tolerant; don't set yourself up for failure.

Indeed. I still remember when we were told to "keep all personal information off the internet." It seems many people have forgotten the benefits of online anonymity.

From LEOs especially the Feds, no.
From employers/prospective employers, yes.
They aren't very sophisticated but many HRs are known to check Facebook.

Being connected isn't an asset if the info slips to the wrong person(s)...
