Afternoon!

Moved back to Cincy a few months ago from Denver. The urbex scene there is super dangerous as it's almost all abandoned mine shafts.

Looking to join a few folks around town if anyone has anything planned coming up- hit me up!

There's definitely a LOT more than just mines in Cinci! I actually didn't know there were mines there.

I think he meant the mines in Denver... Only mines I know of in Cinci are I.E.D's used by drug dealers

The closest mine to Cincinnati, as far as I know, is one about halfway between Silver Grove and Augusta, KY - right across the river from New Richmond. And no it's not abandoned.

What about the abandoned subway system? That's under Cincinnati too, right?

Yes, but it's quite different from exploring a mine (as far as I can tell). The biggest hazard in the subway is water.

Really? I would think that ensuring structural integrity and waterproofing would be the first thing to be built.

Yes, but consider that the subway has been defunct for about 90 years.

Lol, now it sounds more like a mine.
What looks like a water puddle can be a deep water filled hole and/or have sharp debris, ankle twisters, etc hidden below the surface.

It probably won't be until the summer or fall, but the bf and I are moving to the Cinci/Dayton area this year. Never been exploring down there, but I've seen the pics the locals post on here and the couple of buildings my bestie (a member on here who hasn't posted in ages) has driven us past.

Well gee sounds like a real party is finally coming to my neck of the woods. Only explorers I ever come across here at home in Dayton are either teen vandals looking for kicks or scrappers looking to pick places dry. Oh and the occasional homeless guy. Be good to get out with some fellow photographer explorers.

Hang out at the McGhetto on S. Main near US35, and you'll run into way more interesting characters.

Best I remember, there are no mine-like death traps in the subway. It's structurally sound because there's a giant tube running along one of the tracks (forgot if it's a water main or cables of some sort). Minor leaks and moisture do seep in, but it's mostly dry down there. The biggest hazard down there is, IMO, all the super fine dust everywhere. Well I guess the biggest hazard would be entry/exit, but the dust is a close second, esp if you have any kind of breathing problems.
