This is pretty rad. Is it partially inhabited? Seems like a lot of vehicles for an abandonment.

I actually got permission from the property owner to go inside, he lives right outside the main gate. He keeps a pretty close eye on it. It is quasi-abandoned. Most buildings are being left unmaintained and a few are maintained enough for storage.

The base was a radar station during the Cold War. It was part of a string of radar stations across Northern America. It was built in 1951 and deactivated in 1977.

Lol, I pretty much figured out you got permission.
That's the way you do sites like this. It's nice to have free rein and not to have be looking over your shoulder.
Had it not been looked after it most likely would be completely trashed by now.

Bear in mind posting in publicly viewable threads like this can bring unwanted attentions to a site. The web spiders never sleep.
You can ask a mod to make this thread privately viewable only. Only FMs, you and those who have already posted can view it then.
Whoa to the web spiders...

Is the guy open to explorers checking it out? Or do you know him personally? I'd love to check it out, what a cool place.

Great set!!

Did anybody else scroll upon #3 & see the face in it? For some reason, that is the first thing I saw. And I love #10! That little shack is so stinking cute!

Not sure how open he would be. I worked on him for over a year before he finally agreed, and I think that was only because I made a connection with him through my full-time job.

I have heard talk from locals that his grand plan is to open the base for tours, never talked to him about that though.

Nice pics!

Did you find the fallout shelter? Those are pretty cool. I'm pretty sure all bases of that type had one.

Turn off the internet and go play outside.

Thanks! I did not. Owner didn't talk about one, and I didn't look for one. That would of been cool!

That place is still good to explore? I've been meaning to explore it for some time, but all the information I was able to find was several years old. I'm glad to hear the owner is cool with photography. I'll have to explore it next time I'm in the area.

"Sorry, I didn't know I'm not supposed to be here," he said, knowing full well he wasn't supposed to be there.
